Yeah, this. I'm not a massive Cary Grant fan but he's great in Charade, and Audrey Hepburn is delightful as always. And as you say, everything else about it is perfect too.

Reminds me of a time when movies had a lot more witty dialogue then most do today. Great film although its hard to believe AFightingPanda got the Criterion Charade for 12 dollars. Sounds like one made in China.

Just finished watching The Music Room and all I can say is, wow! Such a beautiful, opulent film. A simple story (reminded me a lot of The Leopard) great acting and very well put together. This was a blind buy and was slightly hesitant but so glad I picked up. Got to give a big well done the criterion guys for the transfer, I saw the dvd screen caps over at dvdvbeaver and wow, this BD upgrade is the biggest improvement I have ever seen. Sorry, getting a little excited here, but if you haven't seen it, I recommend you do

Its interesting where I got it. I found it at a local used video game store that also takes movie. I just happened to look at there blu rays and looked up at the top shelf where they keep the duplicates from the lower shelves and it was sitting up there. What I was amazed at was the price. 12 dollars was pretty amazing to me considering a lot of the other movies they have for sale are way more. For example they had...

the dark knight for $18
Iron man 2 for $20
Avatar 1 disc for $16
Ghostbusters for $15

So to find a criterion film and have it be that cheap caught me off guard. I had never gotten a criterion film before so I was thinking it might be a replacement case with a printed insert since it had the clear case. It looks like the movie is legit and I just managed to get a great deal.

It's funny but the Three Reasons trailer for The Music Room is the only one that's made me less inclined to see the film. I fancy myself a fairly 'open to new things' sort of fellow but the music just went through my head like a knife.

Given the lavish (and all but universal) praise it gets I imagine I'll give it a look at some point but it's not real high on the list right now.

The difference is contemporary films rely more on petty insults and vulgarity than situational humor.

Can someone help me compile a list of Criterion exclusive "special features and commentaries" from the LaserDisc era that have never made it to newer versions?

So far, I have 5.
  • Ghostbusters - a few extra storyboard to screen comparisons, exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures, library ghost test footage and rehearsals
  • Dr. No - commentary
  • From Russia With Love - commentary
  • Goldfinger - commentary
  • The Game - tons of shit I don't know about.

Not totally sure but how many commentaries for Citizen Cane have there been over the years?

It's a landmark achievement in combining traditional old-age make-up and CGI seamlessly, without comprising the artistic vision!

Check out OT.com. We already have a list over there.

And, btw, almost all the special features for The Game have been released in other regions on DVD.

Love Hitch, Grant, & Hepburn. Did not like Charade. Felt like a TV movie comp'd to Hitch. And I thought the writing was pretty atrocious. Probably my biggest single let down of the collection.

I'm not crazy about Charade either. I wouldn't go so far as atrocious but I've always thought it was pretty ordinary.

That said, I'm almost certain to pick it up one day. I came awfully close during the last B&N sale.

Pardon my newb ignorance, but what is this Barnes and Noble sale that is constantly referred to? Is it something I should mark on my calendar?

I thought Charade was a very solid movie and enjoyable. It was also my first Criterian movie and a blind buy and incidentally my first Grant movie. I thought the plot moved along nicely and was by no means stale. After watching the movie I am of the firm belief that AH can act more with just her eyes than most actresses nowadays using everything at their disposal.

All IMO of course.

They totally blew it though.
[Show spoiler]Should have been Baby-sized-oldperson ---> oldperson-sized-baby. Reverting back into a baby-sized goes against the movie logic that was set up.
