Trust me. I plan on picking it up eventually. And I've gotten close to getting the BD copy. But right as I'm about to commit to the buy I'm like "ehhh I'll put my money towards a different Criterion film".

I was just wondering why it never gets mentioned.
After following this forum for about 800 pages, pretty much everything has been discussed, but I've never seen a word about In The Realm Of The Senses.
It's not a complaint and I didn't really feel the need to search out previous discussions. I was just a little surprised that it receives no love and no hate. That's why I asked if anyone had bought it. I'd be just as interested if people dislike or object to the film and don't want to buy it.
I think Beta Man mentioned that he had watched it with the commentary track a while back, but that is actually the only mention of this movie I remember.

Personally I liked it, it found it quite fascinating the way people got completely obsessed and to the point it did. It is not an easy movie to talk/write about without seeming like a pervert (even in this thread, I would guess ), that might be the reason for the silence around it.

Oh, I thought people were too busy arguing love/hate for <insert director here> and whether or not to actually open their Criterions, save the Blu-Ray stickers and other much, much more interesting stuff...

BTW, what do you people do about the name/barcode (I think it has a barcode) strip at the top of Criterions, especially since they are not on all their movies. Do you meticulously peel them off, stick them on a glass-plate and iron them flat?

Mine go in the trash, because I usually rip them off. Ditto for any other stickers or shrink wrap. Blasphemous, I know.

I am extremely impressed by it and will go out of the way right now and just call it a masterpiece . Clouzot got EVERYTHING right on this one, more than I could have hoped even with my sky-high expectations. Now after seeing the film I could understand why some people said Hitchcock had a formidable "adversary" on Clouzot . Diabolique really gives Hitchcock a run for his money and then some. The level of suspense found here is off the charts. I appreciate how Clouzot give time to build-up tension and also kinda confuses the viewer with that slow-burning start. Vera Clouzot was amazing but, in my opinion, Simone Signorete completely stole the film. Characters such as this one shows the quality of an actress that was Signorete and why is one of my favorite French actresses "pre-Nouvelle Vague" (And I say pre because she also had major contributions before the whole movement begun). Overall, I felt Diabolique is one of those masterpieces that aren't as well known because of more recent similar examples like in this case Psycho's popularity. This is truly sad as Diabolique has to be one of the best french films I have seen in terms of sheer suspense. It seems like Solaris comes next (And you can bet I would go with something like Playtime or Vivre sa Vie instead ).
Clouzot for his making films during the war and the fact that he was despised by some of the "Nouvelle Vague" members is not so well known or considered in France. But I share your enthusiasm and I think he is one of the greatest French directors. As drbikeshorts wrote you can have a look at Le Corbeau or Le Salaire de la Peur. But you may also consider Quai des Orfčvres, with a more light or comedy atmosphere (don't mistake with 36 Quai des Orfčvres that is a totally different movie (but quite good too anyhow)).

That shot is amazing.
I'd blind-buy that film in a second just based on that shot.
Of course, if I blind-bought the DVD a blu-ray will immediately be announced
Would love to see this film...

Actually, it was someone else making those recommendations.
I'll be following that advice and revisiting Le Salaire de la Peur sometime in the future...

I'm amazed that anyone found Charade's writing atrocious? The Writers Guild of America even nominated it for best written comedy in 64'. I personally like dialog that has different meanings which Charade is full of. Maybe not the best movie in the world, but I've always found it enjoyable.

Speaking of Grant I wish Criterion would get the rights back for Notorious. For that matter I'd just like to see some more of his movies on Blu-ray. Like The Philadelphia Story, His Girl Friday, The Awful Truth or Arsenic and Old Lace. Would be nice to see Audrey Hepburns's Wait till Dark released as well. A favorite of mine that is underrated IMO.

I'm confused. Would this be a petty insult or situational humor?

The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, The Pride and the Passion, Operation Petticoat, and Walk Don't Run are fun Grant films too. I'm wishing too much to want any of those to be Criterion releases.

Slight change of subject, should I watch High and Low first, or The Killing/Killer's Kiss? I just had both dropped off to me at the office by my mom.

THE KILLING is a sprint while HIGH AND LOW is much longer. What kind of time do you have?

I get home at 4:30, and go to bed around 10. I also have tomorrow night to watch a film.

Can your mom schedule a delivery at my office too? I would like both of those.

Thanks.

Haha, slight problem there. I'm in Nova Scotia, you're in Minnesota. That's about a 35 hour drive for her (that's just straight driving, no breaks factored in), vs. the 45 minute drive to my office/apartment (apt's 5 minutes from the office). If you'd pay for the trip, and the BDs, I'm sure she'll deliver them. No guarantees on the thermos of Van Houtte's Cherry Chip Swirl coffee though.

Seriosuly though, I get my online orders shipped to her house to ensure that I get them, because I don't have a full-sized mail box at my apartment, and the Canada Post office isn't in a convienient spot for me to do a pick-up. Normally I wait until the weekends to get anything, but she had to do some shopping in the city, and just dropped them off for me.

Individual coupons this time. My mom gave me her 15% off one, so I ordered The Man With No Name Trilogy, as it's on for 26.99 today. Better Deal than Kagemusha.

My account has been set to receive emails from them etc.... I'm actually getting a package from them in the mail today, and despite all of this, I never got an email with a discount code.
