Default Where did you buy your TV?

I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has had any luck from buying their TVs at online retailers versus traditional stores. I want a nice 40"+ 1080p TV, but don't want to pay $2k for it.

Be sure to include the details of your purchase in your post.

Default General Info No Details

I do almost 100% of my electronics purchases over the Internet. I have purchased several thousands of dollars worth of equipment over the years for various places. I usually use a search engine and go with the cheapest price. I have not yet maid a purchase of a large display yet over the Internet. Places like www.onecall.com, www.vanns.com and J and R music world and several other places have been great and reliably to purchase from.

Here is a list of important things when buying mail order

1. Checkout the return policy of the online stores. Ones that offer better deals on new electronics have large restocking fees up to 25%. In general if you’re not sure of the purchase its better to pay more and go with a retail store with a 30 day return policy. Mail order is for someone that is close to 100% sure they want to keep the product when it arrives in working condition.
2. Always pay with a credit card when doing an online transaction. This protects you. Companies are not allowed to charge your credit card until the day the product actually ships. Also if the product never arrives or arrived damaged you can always call your credit card company to dispute the charge as a last resort.
3. Internet purchases are a great way to save money on large displays. Just make sure you do a lot of research on the model since it costs to much to return a large display once it is delivered.
4. There are advantages to paying a higher price at a local store. You can look at the item and purchase it the same day without having to wait a few days or a few weeks. If everyone did online purchases then retail stores would go out of business.

The resolution of CRT picture tubes is around 720P quality since no one makes a consumer CRT with 2 million pixels 1920 X 1080. The Sony 34 inch your looking at most likely max out at around 1300 X 1080 in resolution. When 1080P displays came out all the retail stores are calling the old 1080I sets 720P’s since no 1080I set accept front projection has 1920 X 1080 resolution. I bet that CRT your looking at has at least a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. CRT’s have awesome black levels.

My brother has that hdila. Got it from hhgregg about a year and a half ago. Nice tv but. I hooked my bdp-s1 up to it before I sent it back and it can't accept a 1080p signal....so WTF it's not really a 1080p

Samsung LN-S4096D 40" LCD TV – has an average expert rating of 77 (based on 2 expert sources)

Probably LNS4095D is better if it fits your budget.
