Still hope this will drop further before release though

Yes, excellent film.

I am also hoping that while tackling Miramax's catalog, Optimum will also bring out Jane Campion's Holy Smoke.

Yes, love that film http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144715/ I saw it at the cinema when the other film I went to see had a fault so it was happenstance -and it blew me away. Just has something special like most of Campion's work.

I think it's with http://www.film4.com so the chances of a Blu-ray are slim. The UK DVD is pretty storng (for a DVD!) and if you're a fan of commentaries Campion/Winslet have a chat over some chilled Vermouth. Or whatever it is people drink while they quasi-watch films and comment on them. I find commentaries a bizarre thing other than on the radio.

Ho-hum.

Also love that movie - it's in my top 20 movies of all times and as I am very pleased with the dvd transfer of the UK DVD I have some hopes for the UK Blu also.

Damn! Well, if they continue with releasing Blus with poor PQ like THE SHIPPING NEWS or RIPLEY... I really don't need them to release anything anymore...

THE HOURS also got cancelled.

I sent them an email asking when this and They Live will be released and this is what they said:

"Dear Robin

We have no current plans to release them until we have access to high quality materials.

Sorry for any inconvenience

Regards"

StudioCanal have been releasing quite a lot of shitty Miramax titles lately so I'll be taking a long good hard look at this before spending.

I think StudioCanal must have found recent Miramax transfers in a skip at the back of an old HD TV channel (one like they control perhaps).

£4.99 written all over it unless they have something new.

True. I also doubt this release to look even decent after they messed up Ripley and Shipping News... as far as I remember the reason for cancelling SMOKE back in 2011 was that the distributor wasn't satisfied with the quality of the BD transfer... well as I love that movie I will buy it anyway first day

As its been released in Germany by Studio Canal, here're my thoughts:

I love SMOKE and was very happy about its release. I've had doubts about the pq as not all Studio Canal titles were looking good in HD but fortunately SMOKE looks really really good. The picture shows much detail, colors look natural and fine grain is apparent. All extras from the UK DVD are also on the disc (commentary, deleted scenes etc.).
I have not seen BLUE IN THE FACE yet but what I saw didn't look that good. The pq is not as strong as in SMOKE. It still looks decent but the picture is not that detailed and looks a bit washed out. No extras for this movie.

Both BDs are region B-locked.

Good to hear that about Smoke. What audio formats did smoke have?

Ordering Smoke come payday. Last time I saw it was at a NFT preview just prior to release. One of my favourite Keitel performances.
