Nobody has mentioned Mel Brooks Silent Movie. I know it's not a traditional silent movie but it is completely silent except one word.

yeah that one would count imo.
I've seen it on several lists of silent films so good call.
shame it's only in the boxset so far with no individual release.

Clicking on the flag does not change your settings...In your site preferences, there's a heading for Show movies from you should have a check mark by the French Flag. If you already do, and a title search doesn't bring up French Titles, I suggest you contact admins...

except that most silent films desire to have sound and have a score.

i know it's a parody, but it might no be a parody done right ;P

can't wait for any of those titles =) Cabinet is a national treasure. it should be 1 of the first.

Especially some of his more obscure titles like The Penalty, The Ace of Hearts or Laugh Clown Laugh. Not sure if we will ever see Phantom of the Opera or Hunchback considering the condition of the prints in existence. When a title is in such a condition I don't mind some digital manipulation to make a clear image. I think they could provide a less manipulated version on the disc as well for purists.

can ya'll help me link to it. also the reviews for the 3 released in France? not familiar w/those.

the people in Germany are probably working on those right now I would have to think. I mean I don't have any specific info, but they take the preservation of those seminal films very seriously, and I feel very confident those 2 at least will certainly make it blu eventually.
the Eureka "Nosferatu" dvd is a fantastic release so hopefully they will release the blu-ray also.
btw: 7th Heaven is listed after a 1928 release above so the link needs to be moved.
also it has a stray [ sitting there.
also: the Chaplin's from the UK need to be added; they are on bd.com and I think a few have been reviewed.

bd.com has not reviewed the French titles yet.
I have inquired if they plan to do so, so we should have an answer regarding that soon.
EDIT: ok the bd.com reviews of the Borzage titles are coming in Feb according to admin.

So are the Carlotta silents only Region B? Maybe split the list into what country they were released?

You might want to add the Sunrise/City Girl Box from Carlotta. It is, Coffret F.W. Murnau.

Figured it out. They are region free according to dvdbeaver. Too bad that didn't help with exchange rates and taxes. Might get them someday.

looks like this thread is due for an update.
last updated in January.
c'mon Jedi, let's keep the silent film thread from dying out; it's a great idea that needs to be kept current.

http://eurekavideo.co.uk/moc/catalogue/coeur-fidele/

Couer Fidčle (1923, region B locked)

Man's Genesis (1912, extra on Kino's Sherlock Jr./Three Ages Double feature)

According to Silent Era's Facebook page, Strike (1924), is on its way from Kino

Phantom of the Opera (1925, but it's the 1929 version) is on the way from Image

The Gold Rush (1925) is available from Park Circus, but it's the 1942 rerelease, which isn't silent.

Oldest feature film, but the BFI release of Jań Švankmajer's Alice (Něco z Alenky) has the short Alice in Wonderland from 1903 as a bonus feature.

It's a complation film, but "Slappiest Days of our Lives" is an extra on Penny Points/Let's Go Crazy. Great Billy Bevan nd Stan Laurel stuff.

People on Sunday (1929) was released by Criterion a few months back.

The Phantom Carriage (1920) comes out Sept. 27th.

HD! There's a lot of print damage, but what makes it through does so very nicely!

This thread is great, deserves to be kept alive for sure. Park Circus here in the UK are releasing Chaney's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I think it was released by Image in the US?

I'm very keen to get 3 silents from Kino... Eisenstein's BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN & STRIKE and THE BLACK PIRATE (starring Douglas Fairbanks). Also interested in those Carlotta Films Borzage releases. Good to hear they have English intertitles.

Eureka are going to release Murnau's last film, TABU, next year in the UK. I read this is a "semi" silent film!?
