Not sure if this list contains every 3D movie scheduled for release next year but it does have 40 of them listed which seems a staggering number to me. Anyway which ones are you looking forward to owning, which ones will you see in the theater?
Poll options are listed by currently scheduled release date with the ones on the very bottom being movies with dates not yet set. |

The Hobbit being shot in 3D is what tipped me to go 3D at all.
I've been saying for a year that I don't really care if 3D fades away- it will still be the most appropriate way to watch several years of great movies forever after. PJ is conceiving of the Hobbit movies in 3D, and unless someone has serious headache issues with it, I don't intend to ever play it in 2D in my household. Spider-Man looks great too, but the other just means more to me personally. |

If a mod can change the typo in the title from # to 3 I'd appreciate it, seems I can't do it myself.
![]() ![]() ![]() Any movie I omitted from the list was accidental, not sure when Hugo is supposed to be released, I thought Tintin was missing from the list but it looks like that actually has a release date for this December. A bunch of these are already day ! buys for me, many others I don't know anything about and when I learn more about them might become first day buys for me. Clash, Avenger, MIB, Spiderman, Dredd, Promethius and the Hobbit.
Also Star Wars, Titanic and Tin Tin. Some other's I might see if I get the time, but won't rush out for, like Dorothy and Texas Chainsaw. Batman's 2D I hear... shame. When's Man of Steel schedualled for? |

Same here. I know Spider-Man is being shot in 3D. Is that also true for Avengers and The Hobbit? If so, that'll be a huge boost to the 3D format. We need more natively shot live action material made available.

I'm just hoping most of these are actually filmed in 3D and are not conversions. I think the difference is clear to most people when you watch them that conversions don't measure up, whether they know what the differences between filmed and converted are or not.
If 3D is going to thrive we need to have more quality movies. Although I haven't seen Transformers 3 (waiting to watch it at home) the 3D got rave reviews because it was filmed properly in 3D and it wasn't a rush job. Having said that can't wait for The Hobbit, it's just the kind of showcase we need. Although not on this list I'm very much waiting for Hugo which is out later this year, I can't wait to see what Scorsese does with 3D! |

Transformers had very good 3D, but the movie itself (script, acting, etc.) was awful. It was also so long (with battle scenes that seemed to go on for an eternity) that I stopped noticing the 3D after a while.
Captain America, on the other hand, was a pretty good, competently made popcorn flick. The only thing I didn't like about it was that in the end, it felt more like a long teaser for next year's The Avengers than a film that can stand on its own. |

Yeah, saw the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man and really looked awesome. Can't wait! I don't know if the other two are natively shot in 3D as well. I hope so.

As far as I know the Hobbit, in addition to being native 3D, is also being shot at 48fps. I'm really hoping that we're gonna see a significant leap in movie going immersion. |

2012 will introduce the world to numerous pictures shot with the new Red Epic 5k 3D cameras. Earlier native 3D productions like Avatar were unfortunitly only 2k productions. This is perfectly fine today when home cinema maxes out at 1080p but in the future this could be a huge problem. Digitally shot movies are stuck at the resolution they were shot at. While its possible to re-render animation at a high resolution its impossible to make live action footage any better then what it was shot at. When 4k televisions finally arrive Avatar could end up looking inferior in terms of fine detail with 35mm film productions produced decades earlier.
Red Epic 5k cameras should do a much better job of future proofing Native 3D productions much better then older 3D digital 3D cameras could. Promethus, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Hobbit movies are being shot with Red Epic cameras and should probably be the finest looking 3D productions ever done. They will be a treat |

Im hoping that the Red Epic 3D productions released that year will be impresssive enough to make conversions a thing of the past by 2013 and this silly fad of shooting movies in 2D will finally die out |
