It is quite accessible, although so many of its techniques have been copied and homaged so many times since, that it may not seem as fresh as it once did.

The first time I saw it was quite by accident, at about 1 AM, on TV's Owl Theater, about 1960. Even though I had to get to class early in the morning, I couldn't turn it off. I so loved it that I kept my eye out for it in revival and art theaters, but no luck -- it wasn't quite on their "must run" then.

In about '62, when Sight and Sound put it at the top of their Best Films of all time list, it popped up everywhere. I saw it more than 10 times in the '60s, always in gorgeous 35 mm prints. When I met my wife in 1970, one of the first things I did was take her to see Citizen Kane.

The VHS, and the two DVDs released so far in no way do the photography justice. I'm hoping they have done a great restoration before transferring it to BD.

I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable of movies and I tend to like 'good' movies that most people like (views are always subjective of course); however, I got this a two weeks ago and was very excited (could this be part of it?) to see it. The movie being weird doesn't bother me, but as I kept watching the movie I couldn't get into the whole surrealistic thing, not really knowing what and how much was real (maybe that's why I also didn't like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Inception?).

My whole point of view about 8 1/2 came to this: this is one of the movies that people (not everybody) like to say they 'like' because it's 'weird' and it's 'not for everybody' or 'easy to understand', but not because they really 'get it'.

You're kidding me?? I don't think it has gone for less than $50 on AMZ. I need to be more careful on that.

Back on topic...I'm keeping my pre-order, even when I believe that this one might go lower in price later.

They should include every commentary ever done for the movie. Including the Image Entertainment LaserDisc exclusive.

In a world without copyrights, I'm sure they'd do exactly that.

Those of us who work in the film business have experienced things that make 8 1/2 look totally rational! I can understand average people not understanding 8 1/2. It's a movie about fantasy and filmmaking made by a master of both. It's about the struggles involved in creation in a public medium. There's a reason why it ends up on the top ten lists of directors more than those of audiences.

People get it. Don't pass your lack of understanding onto others.

If you are going to say that the movie that the majority of people call "The Greatest Film of All Time" is over-rated, could you at least provide an explanation as to why you feel that way?

Those pictures look gorgeous. Of course, they assume everybody knows what Rosebud is by now. I'd hate to be a person getting this and seeing it for the first time.
I'm pretty sure I've worn out my DVD copy after six or seven years of owning it.
Also excited about "Ambersons". Whenever it's on TCM, I record it. September 13 can't come soon enough!

What are the dimensions of the Citizen Kane box ? What's the height, like a normal Blu-ray, more DVD-sized, or in between?
