Angry Why are all these games offline 1P ONLY??

i am talking about offline...sitting on the couch with another human being and playing video games together. DiRT is 1 player. Motorstorm is 1 player. UT3 is 1 player. the PS3 website shows Burnout Paradise and Gran Turismo Prologue are 1 player. how can a racing game only be 1 player??????? do developers think gamers do not have friends anymore? I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY ONLINE AGAINST A BUNCH OF PEOPLE I NEVER MET BEFORE. i want to have my buddies come over and drink beer and race without having to take turns. i have this state-of-the-art video game system that is pretty much becoming laughable because of it's lack of ability to involve more than 1 person at a time. do i need to go buy a crappy game like MX vs. ATV to have some fun when company comes over?? it is the only 2P offline racing game that i found!

Online multiplayer's probably a bigger selling point now than offline multiplayer. LAN functions very similarly to online play so that's usually included. Local multiplayer, especially splitscreen introduces new interface and performance challenges. They only have limited manpower/time so something has to give.

I should probably also add this is more of a problem now because developers are only just getting up to speed with the new hardware. Expect to see a higher ratio of offline multiplayer supporting games in the future.

Haze, one of the first of many.

yeah, i understand. i just wish developers put more emphasis on offline multiplayer. now everybody has broadband internet access and apparently it is no longer important. if the internet blew up one day many of these games would become unplayable.

Yeah, because the local multiplayer friendly Wii isn't still killing the other consoles in sales...

Shame, I was looking forward to the next Burnout installment because I *assumed* it had at least 2 player.

+1 It gives uninformed people yet another reason to get the 360 over the PS3. Halo 3 is 2-4 player multiplayer (on the same system), both online and off.

Resistance has a good co-op mode. I've always had fun with it. Unfortunately, the majority of the good offline multiplayer experiences I've had lately are PSN downloads. Flow, Super Stardust HD, Calling all Cars, Puzzle Fighter, Twisted Metal 2.

I have quite a few multiplayer games for the PS3, but they're not really all that fun. Rainbow Six: Vegas, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Ridge Racer 7, and Rock Band make up the best of it, and that's not really saying much. Virtua Fighter 5 is fun, but nobody I know ever wants to play it. I don't even bother to look at NBA Street, what a waste that game was. I've heard that Warhawk is a pretty awesome offline game, so I'll probably pick that up.

It really sucks because my school cripples our bandwidth to reduce online gaming, but for some reason XBL and WoW still work fine. PSN, Wii, and online PC games besides WoW are completely unplayable. I try to find good games to play offline with people, but we end up just playing Rock Band and Gamecube games to death. I must've beaten Resistance on co-op like 20 times already.

I'm dying for a patch that will make Unreal Tournament 3 either an offline multiplayer game or a 2 player co-op one.

yeah, having no offline multiplayer is really annoying, i also hate that most games don't have online split-screen. warhawk is the only game i know of that has online split-screen. and you can't log on to two different psn accounts at the same time like you can on xbox live. or atleast i don't think you can.

they should really update that, it's probably one of the only feature i like about XBL, the whole logging into multiple accounts for split-screen.

Default drink coasters.....

I thought motorstorm was great so I had some friends over to play. I just love passing the controller its wonderful. Then we rented UT3 and we were all dazzled by the graphics...... then we all got ready to play together and whammo, the big screw job part 2. Hey guess what I got more "actual" friends then "virtual" friends so lets pretend like its 1992 and we have the ability to incorporate in home multiplayer huh folks.

Sometimes, a game can be viewed as a good novel. With a good novel, in order to feel immersed in the fantasy world, it's best to snuggle up in a warm sofa and read it by yourself. It's hard to feel immersed if you're reading with a swarm of friends surrounding you and being all energetic.

Some games, like Uncharted or even Resistance, just feels more pleasurable when I play it by myself.

I love the 2p Co-op mode in Resistance, and I do wish Motorstorm was 2p. The benefit of Motorstorm being 1p, you can drink more while your friend drives.

Agree, but the OP is mainly talking about Racing games.
