You can post, you just can't post something with a link without it being approved, or start a new thread outside of the newbie section

Ok... so get the link thing now. Was wondering why some of my posts were going through immediately and others weren't...

I posted at least one duplicate before I saw this. I'll edit/delete one of them when I'm able to, but would think if this info was made a bit more obvious/apparent to all it could cut down on duplicate entries and therefore shorten the approval cycle.

Hey! I posted a new message recently (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=63235)
and I've been trying to post replies TWO times but not it just says that my replies have to be approved by Moderators. I also sent a PM to "THUNDERHAWK" but I haven't heard anything back.
I know now I should have posted in the newbie section first. Am I doing something else wrong?
Thanks.

Default Thank you!

New Member, second post. Excellent Forums!

Thank you for the previous explanations of the Forum policies. I wondered, having not read all of this information prior to registering, why my post didn't show up when submitted. As there is no alert that pops up to explain why my post wouldn't show up, I simply re-submitted it. That DID produce a pop-up that told me that my post was a duplicate. Having read this thread, I now understand.

I've operated a large Forum of this type, which no longer exists due to continuous problems with spam posters and the overwhelming amount of manual effort required to manage something of this size. For new members that complain about the time it takes to get a message posted or responded to, please keep in mind that an enormous amount of Junk gets posted to Forums on a daily basis. A seemingly neverending number of spammers join forums simply to post junk messages full of links to Viagra, Calias & Pornography sites. They don't really care whether or not the posts show up, and having them NOT show up doesn't deter them from continuing to post them by the thousands. All of these spam posts require a moderator to manually delete the message and ban the IP address & email of the spammer. Unfortunately, the spammers simply spoof their IPs/Email Addresses and re-join to do it all over again. This type of abuse is going on all the time, whether the regular users of the Forums realize it or not.

My observation is that the operators and moderators of these forums have chosen to take on the Herculean task of actually reading the member posts and attempting to discern whether they add value to the information on the site. I would imagine that these forums are managed by people who have day jobs and operate the Forum as a hobby, which just happens to offer a huge service to those who have legitimate desire for knowledge transfer. So let's all remember that patience IS a virtue and be thankful that these forums continue to exist when so many others have simply given up the fight.

Looking forward to sharing once my training wheels are off. Thanks!

Default Problem posting

The status box at the bottom says I'm allowed to post a new thread, yet when I try to I'm told I'm not allowed to. How do I fix this?

Ive just tried to post a new thread in the general topics and was told i cant make a new topic....

Surely that cant be right. you expect to get moderated for a bit but stopping new members from opening new threads is one way to drive newbies away...

yeah - out of the tons of various forums that I have joined,
this is the one and only one that limits new topic postings
AND doesn't detail what the reqs are for allowing you to create new threads....

This is, in most cases, EXACTLY why you come here;
to ask a question and learn from the readers;
not just post in a newbie thread or just reply to existing threads....

Lastly, is there any way to tell in our sidebar profile "membership" or control panel profile IF and WHEN we have permission to post new threads ?

Not only that but how about Moderators who don't give you time to correct your post before they just up and delete it? Communication is a wonderful thing. Especially when it takes you a long time to create a post and the Mod doesn't give you time to correct the post.

This site and the community are great but I think there's a short fuse when it comes to deleting posts without giving someone time to correct it.

Default Can't rate galleries

I've been a member for about 4 months. I was able to rate galleries when I first joined, but now, for some reason, I get the 'to prevent abuse new members cannot rate galleries'. I also cannot seem to find the definition of 'new member' anywhere on the site, or what the criteria is be able to rate galleries. Does this mean you have to be constantly 'active' to be able to use this website? Thanks.
