Default Do you have brand loyalties in the PC world?

Anything I buy must be AMD or NVIDIA. My first personal PC and graphics card was AMD and NVIDIA. So I figure why change something that works. I've developed a dislike of Intel and especially ATI. I think its due to the fact every PC I have ever owned had onboard ATI graphics. Wanting to get as far away from onboard graphics as possible I go NVIDIA. Psycological of course.

Do you have such loyalties, and why?

The processor war doesn't really matter to me, I go for the most bang for your buck. I'm actually watching and waiting to see what the next gen brings as I would like to build in Q1 2012, AMD will have 8 & 12 cores available while Intel should have Ivy Bridge - will be looking for a low power option for either. Which I buy will depend on the cost of the chip, cost of the mobo and ram - (Still running Conroe C2D e6600, DDR2).

Now for the GPU I lean more towards ATI, don't have anything bad to say about nVidia I just didn't have much luck with the one I had eons ago (think it was 8 or 16bit) I'm just more familiar with ATI and they are "Canadian"...

I don't use the HTPC for gaming anymore just for video ripping and processing, in fact I don't really need to build as this system does everything I need it to do - why build another - Because I can

Not really.

My PC in semi-retirement is AMD - ATI combination.
My current setup is Intel - ATI, it used to be Intel - nVidia

Never had an AMD - nVidia though.

ATI is now AMD though. The ATI brand is slowly disappearing

The term "brand loyalty" is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

agreed, I'm loyal to my wallet and the quality of the product

if AMD makes a better processor than Intil then I'll ditch intel like nobody's business

if Intel continues to make better processors then F@ck AMD.... same goes with just about everything else.

I've never been loyal to a brand. Not only concerning PCs but in general. Of course, this does not prevent from having a favorite brand sometimes but it's not loyalty.

Agreed.

I chose Intel/nVidia because my last three computers were all Intel/nVidia components. But that was just the way it worked out. Price/performance and all that jazz.

All the pre-builts I owned were a combination of AMD and ATi/nVidia. With this computer I built and got working last Friday I'm going with AMD and ATi. Due to pricing.

Then that makes you a switcher

#1 Hard-core Loyals - who buy the brand all the time.

#2 Split Loyals - loyal to two or three brands.

#3 Shifting Loyals - moving from one brand to another.

#4 Switchers - with no loyalty (possibly 'deal-prone', constantly looking for bargains or 'vanity prone', looking for something different)

I'm flexible when it comes to CPUs: for the first 15 years, I used AMD-based CPUs in my PCs, but my last two builds were based on Intel CPUs, and my next upgrade is probably going to be an Intel as well (unless the Bulldozer CPUs deliver on its nickname ).

With GPUs, it has to be ATI/AMD for me (the only exception being the RSX GPU inside my PS3; if I could swap it with an AMD equivalent, I would ). Nvidia's business practices left me with a bitter taste in my mouth (and apparently, with SONY as well ); I want no part of them if I can help it.

I've shifted back between AMD/Intel/Nvidia over the past few years, but am satisfied with my AMD/Intel setup.

And brand loyalty isn't ridiculous. For example, the only memory I'll buy is G.Skill yet people still pay for over-priced (eh hem....over-hyped too) brands like Corsair.

I have RAM from G.Skill. Going to buy another of the exact same kind for 16GB total.

I'm a Nvidia fan and use to use AMD cpus although I didn't feel strongly about the AMD cpus (just thought they were the best bang for the buck at the time). I typically also had a comparable system based around an ATI card for comparison purposes (i.e. so I could do my own benchmarks, screenshot comparisons, etc.). Anyway, once I started gaming on consoles, I stopped upgrading my computers so even though I probably wouldn't use AMD today, my systems are still based around them (I stopped uprgrading right around the time the intel core 2 duo was taking over). If I was building a system today, I'd get a Nvidia card, Intel CPU and whatever nvidia or intel motherboard works best for that combo.

My PC has AMD processor (Athlon II X4 620) with integrated ATI graphics (Radeon HD4200).
My laptop has Intel processor (i5-520M) with integrated Intel graphics (GMA 5700MHD).

My previous PC had AMD processor (Athlon XP 2500+) with cheap ATI graphics (Radeon 9200).

I put together my PCs myself and I choose parts that have the best performance for a reasonable price. I'm not into gaming but I checked the prices for some high-end graphic cards and they cost as much as my whole computer. Well, actually, I'm planning to buy a reasonably cheap graphics card (around 150 euros) to try out some of the newer games.

I'm pro- nVidia, and although I like Intel better, having it for most of my life, the past two years has been AMD Phenom, and it ain't bad. Next rig I plan an Intel, though, unless price is right for AMD.
