The Core i5 2500K's numbers are more in line with AMD's top current offering, the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition (you can find those comparison numbers here). For heavily-threaded business apps, I like the Phenom II X6; for gaming, I'm giving the nod to the Core i5/i7 (for now). I say now because the AMD Bulldozer CPUs (based on the K10 microarchitecture; release date: TBA) could give Intel's offerings a run for their money.

I am not entirely sure how you look at that benchmark and many others around the net and claim the 2600k is not a runaway winner. It clearly is and has been since release. The 2600k is far superior to the x6 in multi-threaded apps. In gaming it is not as much of a difference. Any of those chips would be fine for gaming.
