Where is Grave of the Fireflies and Spirited Away? I consider them the best from Studio Ghibli.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grave of the Fireflies was released alongside Totoro when that hits, considering they were released in theaters as a double feature. When that happens though is anybody's guess. If they're keeping this pattern then we'll probably see their new film in June/July next year along another catalogue title, and then another two catalogue titles by November/December 2012. They sure are taking their time with these releases, but considering the AV quality, I'd say it's worth the wait

Planning on starting my JP Ghibli collection, I'm just wondering whether the packaging is sturdy? I've heard reviews that the earlier blurays had flimsy packaging.

Also, are the menus in Japanese only? If so, are they difficult to navigate with no knowledge of Japanese? Finally, do any of the specials have subtitles?
Thanks for your help.

Packaging is sturdy. Menus in japanese but easy to navigate anyways. No english subtitles on the extras. (this is for the JP versions)

Pure awesomeness, thanks for this lovely forum & U kind people I found this thread just in time, this is going to cost me arm & leg now to get them all (well already placed an order for all from Yesasia & can't wait for them to arrive). Is the picture/audio quality On these BDs that good compared to the Japanese DVDs? {I say Japanese DVDs because we all know they have the best audio & video on their titles & I happen to own all their LEs, CEs, SEs }, I love Studio Ghibli & have a huge collection, from DVD LEs from all over the world, Art Books to Cominica statues & figures & these would be just the perfect additions to my collection

I'd say the difference really is day and night. Check the comparison of Whisper of the Heart a few pages back. The older titles retain a lot of grain and don't really have that "clean" look that Disney titles have, and this has divided a lot of viewers, but personally, I really like it.
You're lucky for getting in the game relatively early. Had all the films been released by now you wouldn't have many body parts left, metaphorically speaking of course

Same disc, new package (to match the others).

So that's a definite positive on Ponyo having the same disc? I remember seeing in a forum a comparison between a shot from the blu-ray and an image of the digital source file I believe and the blu-ray image was slightly cropped and had a sort of yellowish cast. Not that Ponyo really needs to look that much better but it was just interesting.

These potential future ghibli titles excite me to no end but I can't stand the waiting. Ever since my (unhealthy) obsession with Ghibli began over a year and a half ago and having seen what these titles can look like I feel like I am living in purgatory stuck with crappy dvds. I fear my mental health may be at stake.

Well, it might not be the exact same disc, they might change the menu to match the cover, like the other discs have, but I don't see why they should have to remaster the transfer or change it in any way as it was as good as perfect in the first place.
Perhaps they'll add the English dub as a selectable track and not just a force-subtitled bonus feature...

Through Google translator (I cleaned up the language):
Quote:

The contents of the disc is the same as the one already released.

I know, it's late and it doesn't really matter anymore because of the new Japanese release, but the Rating logo is only a sticker (as on every German Ghibli release)

If you buy Whisper Of The Heart from disney-studio.jp/ghibli, you will get a Korikou Kaza-kara postcard set.

What is the difference between the hk and jp releases? The price is more than double and the packaging appears to be the same? Which versions are everyone getting?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I think the video transfers are slightly less quality, but I am unable to prove this since I don't have the JP discs.

Subtitles may be different as well, not that it's Engrish, just that the punctuation could be wrong. Missing quotation marks or a 'g' not looking right.
