I think it's funny that films keep getting made where people cap off as many rounds as they want in small rooms and can still hear... it's like the filmmakers forgot that firearms are LOUD

Looks very well done but a little too crazy for me

Saw this at the midnight premier in Toronto. LOVED it. Awesome, amazing, well-done movie. The audience was roaring in applause after each fight sequence and couldn't get enough. The stars were on hand, and what a small guy Iko is! But built like a brick. Pure fun and awesome fight sequences with killer moves I had never seen before in a movie. I posted my review in my Toronto Festival thread if you care to read it. First post.
Go see it when u can.

Thanks for the film recommendations. I plan to watch Merantau this week since it is on NF instant. How would you compare Indonesian cinema to Thai cinema? Not a huge fan of Thai due to horrid acting and horrid acting. I think I unjustly grouped Indonesian & Thai cinema together.

Thai is 1 step ahead of Indonesian cinema, in terms of the use of visual effect in most parts. They also produced lots of good to great horror. And recently, Thai romance flicks becoming really "IN" in Indonesia. In general i personally lean more towards Thai cinema even tho i'm an Indonesian myself, but don't get the wrong idea, Indonesia has some gems too. Indonesia makes lots of crappy horror films and sex comedy (well, blame to these 2 also crappy directors: KK Dheraaj and Nayato), but then we have movies like, aside from what i already mentioned above, Rainbow's Troops, Alangkah Lucunya Negri Ini, Naga Bona Jadi 2, Quickie Express, Jermal, Cin(T)a, Hari Untuk Amanda, etc which made me proud to be an Indonesian. lol Maybe after The Raid, Indonesian cinema will be made known better universally, cos we don't need amazing special effect, we make movies with heart, you know like those Iran movies, simpe but heartwarming, tackling whichever the issue in the society like religions (usually Christianity and Islam), homosexuality, and environment.

#TheRaid was an amazing action film with some of the best fight choreography ever & very violent. Not for the faint hearted.

Oksose
#theraid best action movie since ong-bak and spl. Highly recommend you see this action movie

Forget Tony Jaa, Jet Li & even Tom Hardy. THE RAID is the best action movie in decades! Gareth Evans & Iko Uwais FTW!

The Raid film score
September 9, 2011

For a long time, I have been wanting to score a film. In order for it to work, it would have to have a great story, stunning visuals, and the timing would have to work out in a way that didn’t distract from all the things I want to do with Linkin Park.

I’m really excited to have finally found the right project. The movie is called The Raid. Its intense martial arts choreography, amazing cinematography, and great story have been inspiring all kinds of new music. I’m excited for all of you to see—and hear—this film.

Yes, so glad The Raid won the MM award. I seen 5 out of the 10 films, and it was by far the best of them. The audience reaction was just insane when it played with the cast and crew in attendance. Wish I had taken pictures!

Sony Classic Pictures announced they firing this in theatres in Spring, the vagueness isn't very hopeful, but I think this might become one of those trendy foreign films everyone has to watch, like City of God or The Host and it grows into a very wide release.

Sony Pictures expect to have same impact as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragonas they are the same team who introduces CTHD to North America audience.

By the way, I saw the movie in Hong Kong during Asian Film Festival in October.

I say one of the best non CGI action movie....

New trailer with more excellent fighting scene:
