Thanks for that.
![]() Funny, I'm all for saving shelf space, but the skinny ones they use for a lot of US releases just feel too skinny to me. And don't even get me started on those awful "eco" things, the ones with the holes in the side walls shaped like a "recycle" logo, the ones that bend and twist as you try to open them and let you put your finger right through the paper cover slick ... gollum_baahh.jpg |

Spielberg talking about George's constant fiddling: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7323
If Spielberg Considers Revisting His Work? Spielberg: That's a little hot topic isn't it? (laughs). Let me put it this way, George does what he does because there's only one George Lucas, and thank god for that. He's the greatest person I've ever worked with as a filmmaker collaborator and he's a conceptual genius. He puts together these amazing stories and he's great at what he does. My feeling is that he can do anything he wants with his movies because they're his movies and we wouldn't have been raised with Star Wars or Indiana Jones had it not been for George. Speaking for myself, I tried this once and I learned to regret it. Not because of fan outrage, but simply because I was a little disappointed in myself. I got very kind of overly sensitive to some of the criticism E.T. had gotten from parent groups when it was first released in '82. Having to do with Elliot saying penis breath or the guns with the CIA. And also there were some rough around the edges close-ups of E.T. that I had always thought if technology ever evolves to the point where I can do some facial enhancements with E.T. I would like to. So I did an E.T. pass for the third release of the movie and it was okay for a while then I realized that what I had done was I had robbed people who loved E.T. of their memories of E.T. My only contrition that I could possibly do because I feel bad about that, the only contrition that I really performed was when E.T. came out on DVD for the first time. I told Universal, we're going to do this or we're not going to put E.T. on DVD. You have to put two movies in the box and one movie will be the 1982 version and the other will be the digitally enhanced version. What I'd like to ask is this. We'll do a little poll here. I know we're coming out with the Blu-ray of E.T. If I came out with just one E.T. on Blu-ray, the 1982 one, would anybody object to that? (Audience shouts 'No!') Ok, so be it. A man who has looked into the abyss but not chosen the Dark Side of CGI, memory recall theft and revisionism! ![]() |

Just watched the Phantom Menace, really enjoyed it but some shots show the age of the CG, hadn't realized how much some of the CG does age! considering it was done in 1999 and Jurassic Park 1993 i would say Jurassic park still looks great, Phantom Menace in some shots does look fantastic but others dont. Anyone else watched it?

OK, this is not meant to be a fanboy rant, just a ... well, a musing, I guess ... but really, these films are Lucasfilm. And they've had how long to get them right since the last DVD refurb? Oh yeah: Seven. Years. And this is Star Wars on Blu-ray (!!!!!!!!) for crying out loud. Wouldn't you think ... honestly, wouldn't you think they'd have moved Heaven and Earth to make sure these transfers were absolutely spot on to the latest "vision"? That there were absolutely Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!! new glitches? |

![]() ![]() I see Tesco now own their own distribution company. This may be why Tesco's Star Wars orders were so darn quick (and of course shipped from the UK). It's called "Oakwood" which sounds like a place I'd like to retire to however it also sounds like the state mental hospital George Lucas is sectioned to after his weekly rededit of Star Wars. Those special features are very intersting as they're a port off the old VHS tapes (TV specials). Very nice to see this sort of stuff but it should have been on the 3 discer release. I suppose the 9 discer is the "definitive" collection now if you don't mind the new 3 films and having no original versions. It's interesting really because the SW series is a phenomena of cinema and there's very little independent opinion on it in the form of documentaries. Shame really. And mind the quite good 2½ hour Empire of Dreams: The Story of the 'Star Wars' Trilogy (just the first 3 films) is missing from this set it seems. That's on the SE DVDs of course and is interesting because it has lots of people talking about the non-CGI versions with non-CGI clips. I suppose George doesn't want non-CGI in his universe which is a shame because that documentary does feel a bit independent and has some great insights. That missing documentary is on YouTube if you look and it's nice to see George seems not too bothered with YouTube's 1000s of clips. He ain't all bad. |
