I'd seriously like to know how it'd look. There's so little narrative fiction shot on 70 these days, I have only a vague concept of what 70 production with modern stocks and recent lenses can look like.

How many billions do you propose they spend to buy them? You realize Lucas owns his Star Wars films, and Fox only distributes them right?

Besides, it would be like the Miramax deals with Lionsgate and Echo Bridge, you can only work with what you are given. (At least, Lionsgate has people in place that understand films, so they can raise a flag if the film is the wrong aspect ratio...)

Well, we’ll all have to wait for sharkshark’s assessment but, until then, this will have to suffice. From the website which espouses the splendor of 70 mm. prints, so I don’t think you can get a more critical/discerning digital audience than that.

Concerning a prior FotoKem project, namely THE SOUND OF MUSIC….

“…in restoring and preserving films shot in 65mm climaxed by a split screen demonstration comparing a new 70mm print off the original negative of Reel 2A of "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" with their DCP version from an 8K scan of the negative projected using the latest Sony 4K digital projector. Allowing for difficulties in lining up and sizing the images from the two projectors involved and matching the color timing, I have to admit that the results struck me as being equal. covers the 2D -> 3D conversion of Top Gun in quoting The Hollywood Reporter, there appears to be no mention of the fact that 18 min. of the 2D -> 3D conversion of Titanic was also shown to audiences at IBC in Amsterdam.

I’ve heard from colleagues who viewed the 18 min. Titanic preview and whose judgment I trust (one having taught Master Classes in both traditional (2D) as well as 3D cinematography) that the presented material looked very good. I think this bodes well for the entire film.

So, for those single guys out there and those married men who still take their wives out on a ‘Date Night’ now and again, this may prove to be a worthwhile endeavor.

Thanks! I'm a fan of the site, but haven't happened upon that article. That result is as I'd imagined, as well. I would think a 4K projection of an 8K 65mm OCN scan should do a pretty nice job of representing that OCN, let alone a print.

but most people are not the same way, that is the issue. Look at DEGs report for last quarter, look at Netflix's Q2 report and their q3 will be even more interesting since in Sept they split the plans (i.e. before a person that rented DVD/BDs was automatically able to stream, now they have to pay for it)

Well....as I see it, if Paramount is going forward with a 3D conversion of Top Gun... is it too early to start lobbying Sony Pictures to do a 3D conversion of Lawrence of Arabia?
