Default PC Monitor for HDTV Use/Video Games

Okay so Basically to make a long story short my surge protector did not work and lightning has fried my 50 Inch Panny

I need a quick fix as the 1 and only Tv (42 Inch) is upstairs and its not going so well as far as sharing goes.

All I need is a basic Monitor that can hookup to A. HDMI for Cable for football, and B. HDMI for my PS3.

I see guys who play VG on their PC Monitors all the time, plus in the near future i plan on building a CPU from the ground up.

I'm worried about the HDTV part i see one that has a tuner in it but is that all i need? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated im going tommorow to get the monitor.

unless youre trying to get OTA signals, a tuner is not needed.

But, keep in mind with a monitor, you will probably not have any speakers inside...so you would need a set of speakers to connect.

Other than that, a monitor with an HDMI/DVI connection will work just fine for games and TV.

I was thinking that as well. Small speaker system couldnt cost that much.

I have a speaker system in my living room but i dont know if that was effected by lightining as well.

I'm pretty sure i can connecxt the monitor to my AVR and place the sound through my speakers as well. Thanks thats all i needed to kno man LOL

If you're already thinking about buying a small speaker system, then you're going to end up spending quite a bit on this little endeavor. I would think that a full-blown TV would be a wiser way to spend your money, as it'll be much more universal than a monitor with no speakers. Just my two cents.

Hmmm I have to that that into consideration metallica. The thing is i plan on just getting the 50" Panny fixed. It comes on but just flickers off so it's not totally fried.

Im not going to look at TV purchase till black friday, thats the only time ill be able to get a decent TV for a respectable amount of money(My panny cost 1400 cant afford that right this second) or

wait till tax season.

Either way I think an assus with built in speakers is sufficient.

Do you think HDMI input output to the monitor is available with my avr for sound?

I have two Dell ST2220T Monitors.

I use them for Ps3 and Football, my pc has a tuner card that gets HD OTA channels so I use that for the few games I get on Sundays since I dont have DTV. It only has one HDMI cable though so if you wanted to hook up your cable box and ps3 you would need to switch cables. Mine do have speakers but they arent all that great, but since I mostly use them for Ps3 I got the PS3 7.1 headphones and they work great with my setup.

Ironic you post on here, you posted that picture somewhere else the other day that got me thinking fo this quick fix. Thanks by the way LOL

Yeah i dont have DTV, i Have regular cable that connects via HDMI. I can get an HDMI splitter no problem.

I just Remembered i have a Sony soundbar/bass system just sitting around. I can utilize that as well For the sports games.

I also plan on getting the new PS3 Headphones before MW3 comes out.

The reason for doing this is that its a quick 200-250 dollar purchase to hold me over till we can get the 50" repaired or fixed, then i can use the Monitor for my Computer i will build.

Was looking at these http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-VX24...6103702&sr=8-4 seems decent.

For reason the wifey doesnt mind me playing hours and hours as long as im in the same room compared as to constant nagging if I left the vicinity lol ya go figure.

haha I wish I had some use for the touchscreen but I never use the that feature lol I got these since they were only $120 each. Not bad for a 1080p 21.5 inch ips display.
