Great news This is on my wish list (see sig). Hope it gets a good transfer. WTF is it with these catalogue titles coming out at full price though, as if it's a triple play brand new release!?!?! If they want Blu-ray sales to increase they are not doing themselves any favours by releasing old films in the £15-20 price bracket. Like AddemFlood said, I'll wait for the price to come down. As much as I like the film, £17.99 is too much. I can afford it - it's just out of principle I refuse to pay that. Apocalypse now was the same price, but that was a 3 disc SE with a shit load of extras!

I'm a big fan of this film and regardless of its steep (for a catalogue) price - I'll buy it! It'll probably come down closer to release anyway...

When I first saw the film I thought it might've been better had Matt and Jude been cast in the opposite role - probably just me.

I love the film nonetheless and the soundtrack is sumptuous.

It's MSRP, real retail price will be around 12 or 13 pounds.

Nothing special. And certainly doesn't justify the £16.99 price tag. Will wait till it's under a tenner, likewise for City of God.

Now coming the 19th instead of the 12th.

Same applies for all other Miramax releases which were also coming on the 12th originally.

Does anyone know if this is definitely a 1080p version? I read in another thread that the Japanese release is only 1080i. It's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I'm dying for a full-on 1080p release!

Good luck getting a better encode. The japanese version takes up almost a full bd-50.

Zavvi have it for £14.85. Some of the other Miramax releases are that price too.

I emailed Optimum directly & got a very quick reply! They confirmed that the UK release is a 1080p encode.

Well, they told the truth, I'm watching it now. Relief!

PQ-wise, it's not (thankfully) razor sharp -it ranges from good and detailed to soft in places - but never caught it at the pics so maybe it's a true reflection of its source? It feels right as grain's present and it seems very filmic. Haven't spotted any DNR or EE, so perhaps it's just as it should be. It's not a perfect print as there's occasional specks and debris

AQ - sounds very good!

This is one of those movies that looks so gorgeous even on standard DVD upconverted, that I've been waiting for yeeears, hoping it would be released on Blu, just for that same picture, but natively at 1080p. If it just looks the same, but moreso, I'll be in heaven. Also dying for Plein Soleil to finally come out: it's one of those ultra-super-gorgeous-technicolor films that will look spectacular in Blu!

I'm assuming this reviewer is misinformed:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134119/technical

The UK DVD (1.85:1/16:9 approx) does look very nice so the Blu-ray should look great. It's got £8.99 written all over it though. They're trying to pull our chain at £17.

A sumptious film. Yes, sumptious

Just don't mention the abomination of the follow-up/reboot/remake which is an 'action thriller' and has very little of either. And it's shit.

The film's original aspect ratio is 1.85:1, not 2.39:1 (2.35:1).

Optimum's disc respects the OAR.
