Default Looney Tunes Showcase: Volume One - January 10, 2012

Looney Tunes Showcase Blu-ray

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7396

Quote:
Home Entertainment has quietly announced the Blu-ray release of Looney Tunes Showcase: Volume One on their publicity website.

No details have been released about the Blu-ray set. Warner has not yet confirmed any information about the disc's technical or supplementary specifications, nor has the studio given any concrete indications about the actual content included in this first volume of the Looney Tunes Showcase series.

It is possible that the Blu-ray is a value-priced selection of cartoons from the upcoming Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume One - when Warner Home Entertainment would issue the expensive Looney Tunes Golden Collections on DVD, the studio would also put out a corresponding (and much cheaper) Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection abridgment - but again, nothing has been confirmed.

Warner has currently set the Looney Tunes Showcase: Volume One's MSRP at $24.98 and listed a street date of January 10th, 2012.

I posted this in the Platinum thread (July 25th):

Seems like Showcase is positioned to undercut Platinum sales if Hunt is correct that it is merely Disc 1 of the Platinum set at a budget price...

Yeah, but all the Taz, Marvin and "Feed the Kitty" shorts are on Disk 2 of the full set.

If I were to go for Platinum Collection, the Ultimate Collector's edition version, no need to get Showcase? Sorry, I'm a bit tired from reading so please correct if I'm mistaken. Thanks.

I believe there is rumors that say that this one is only Disc 1 from the Platinum Collection version.

This edition is obviously a cut-down version from the Platinum Collection to sell at a lower price point in Wal-Mart.

I shied away from all of these because, I don't know, old stuff, mono, etc. I really can't afford to throw down $60 bucks for the 2 Platinums for something that I'm unsure I'd watch more than once or enjoy from a quality perspective. Anyway, that's background. Along comes this now $7.99 "sampler" which, I know, is only 182 minutes vs. 357 minutes.

So my question : is this a fair representation of what's on the Platinum Vol. 1, is it the cream of the crop (unlikely) or is it the dregs (missing really crucial stuff)?

P.S. I just noticed that Platinum Vol. 1 is a DigiBook - but not Vol. 2 - bummer, why? I'll have to check out that thread to see if there are pix. Any info on any of this would be mucho appreciated, thanks!

This Showcase release is basically Disc 1 of the 3-disc Platinum set. Looking at the list, it definitely has a lot of great episodes on there, arguably the best of the set, so I'd say it's a really good sampling. It also comes with several extra features. At $7.99 it's a great price

I have the Platinum #1 and #2 is on the Christmas list. What I'd really like to see is the Fleischer Brothers' Superman TJS-Blu mentioned in September of '11. I know they're a supplement on the Superman Anthology, but who wants all that other junk (i.e. Superman 3, 4, etc.)?

I don't own it, but I imagine they changed the disc art and menus to reflect the Showcase packaging. The content should be exactly the same though

Is there any purpose in buying a copy of this if I had vol. 1 of the Platinum Collection on blu-ray? Not much info and it sounds like all of these may have been included on Platinum Vol. 1? If they're all on Vol. 1 of the Platinum collection, are there any differences with aspect ratios?
