Moderator note:
Please note that the US disc has issues with the brightness not matching in both eyes. See https://imgur.com/a/3d-safari-africa-l-r-issue-MSrMWKD for screenshots, as discussed from post #33 below. The German and UK discs are unaffected. ![]() ![]() ![]() Original post: Hi, Can anyone supply any information about the upcoming release, '3D Safari: Africa'? I'm not familiar with the presenter nor where it was shown(TV or cinema?). What I really need to know is what region coding the 3D blu ray will have since I am here in the UK and this is a US release(will it be an all-region release--as some in other quarters have suggested--or will it be region locked?) I need to know since documentaries and travelogues really seem to benefit greatly from 3D(you have only to look at the IMAX films for a prime example of just how much more interesting they are with "depth"). And, since this has an approximate running time of 90 minutes(twice as long as an IMAX feature, no less!) that will be something to look forward to. But, if the disc is locked to a particular region(unless it's mine--region B) then I'll just have to wait until the studio releases it here in the UK. Please help guys. You'll have my eternal thanks if you can come up with an answer for me. John. Last edited by the13thman; 07-15-2024 at 01:06 PM. |

![]() ![]() https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/3D-Sa...Blu-ray/27792/ I'm pretty sure it aired on one of the 3D cable channels and was not released to cinemas... Maybe someone else can share some more information? I've had it pre-ordered for quite some time now and am currently living in Europe too. I've got both Region A and B 3D players, so when it arrives, I'll be sure to test it and post Region info if no one else confirms it before then. Just a heads up though, it may take a little while before I have it. I'm having it shipped to an address in the US and then consolidated with some other things before I have it sent to me here. I've been contributing Region info to this link as I go along: https://forum.blu-ray.com/3d-blu-ray...-releases.html Anyway - In a similar vein, I received the German Blu-ray 3D of IMAX: Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure which is locked to Region B. That is one to check out for sure. I started a thread on it here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/3d-blu-ray...lu-ray-3d.html Last edited by hotandserious; 09-01-2011 at 03:25 PM. |

3D Safari Africa is due to release in the USA market this September; however our international distributor will be releasing soon in other territories. Let me know what specific territories you are in, and I'll try to find out what the plan is in that region as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your interest in the content. We are very proud of the exquisite 3D in this feature.

As I've said in my opening, I'm a great fan of wild life documentaries. That's why this movie is of such interest to me. I'm here in Britain and my region is B. So my question is relatively simple. Will it be region-locked(A?) or will it be an all-region release(Disney are the main proponents of the all-region 3D releases thus far--but they don't seem to do much in the way of documentaries[a euphemism for nothing! ![]() Hope you may be able to help here. |

I saw this one on comcast free 3d . Its good , also saw wild safari 3d. Also it has the over and under 3d which is better than that side by side effect. I saw them both before many I think the format could be region free.

An FYI correct price decrease:
If you ordered 3D Safari Africa [Blu-ray] from Amazon.com I suggest you check the price on your e-invoice and verify the date shipped. When I ordered it on Sept 20, the price was $22.49 but when the item shipped on Sept 23, I checked the site and the price was $17.99. They sent me an email telling me the price on shipping was @21.49 and I saved an additional $1.00 from the pre-order price guarantee. ![]() Had to call them to get the full $3.50 credit I was guaranteed. ![]() Paul |

If not mistaken, I have seen this documentary in one of the DirecTV 3d channels a while ago. Since then it has instantly become one of my 3d favorites.
It does have pretty intense pop-out effects if I recall. |

I've just been told by the company I'm buying it from that it's on its way. It should have reached me by the 20th of September but, for some reason, was delayed. Still I should have it by tomorrow(the 28th). The company I'm getting mine from is called blu bastard(yes, I know) and they've charged me £20.99 post free. Payment can be made any way you wish including PayPal(eBay's payment service). It's also an all-region release. I suggest you look them up, as part of their site is dedicated to 3D blu rays.
Incidentally 'Bugs' is available through Amazon Germany. John. Edit The disc arrived this a.m. I'll watch it later and let you know. Just checked the menu screen and discovered there's a 3D featurette on Rhinos and Hippos. Last edited by fantasiafilmlover; 09-27-2011 at 09:10 AM. Reason: New information |

That extras feature is out-takes from the movie with more info on the the large African animals.
I got this yesterday and watched it with the wife. You will first be greeted by some low res, B movie previews that you can't skip through but FFW works. When the feature starts you will notice in the first scene that the picture is disappointely too dark for a daytime scene. The whole movie is a mixed bag of too dark scenes and scenes that look very good regarding brightness. Image quality also follows the same pattern. Dark scenes can look soft and brighter scenes look sharper. Audio is disappointing also. It has a Dolby True HD sound track but there is no or hardly any LFE to speak of. I had to check to make sure my new sub (HSU VTF3 MK4) was on. Dialogue from the hunter guy was nice and strong but when the African people spoke with their deeper accented voices, it was hard to hear what they were saying. I thought of turning on sub-titles but let it go. This is not a bad documentary as I learned some things that I hadn't heard before in the many African wildlife docs., I've seen over the years. I was glad that this is not like the short forty or so minutes films that we've been getting from IMAX. The running time on those are fine but it's just nice to get a nature documentary that runs over an hour (90 minutes). There are some very good 3D scenes also with depth but no pop-outs that I saw. I just wish the picture brightness would have been even for the whole she bang. You see what is should look like in some scenes and want more of that. Last edited by Jbug; 09-27-2011 at 04:15 PM. |

The quality of the photography has to be seen to be believed and added to that was the man's adventuresome spirit in going right up close to the various animals. Belive me when I say that you can do no wrong in getting this steelerik. I'm positive you'll not regret it--I certainly haven't. John. |

What is bad about this disc is the first impression it gives from the "low res, B movie previews". The main feature is not "low level res" and why the studio allowed such a first impression like this is beyond my comprehension. ![]() Paul |
