watched TPM last night. the PQ was inconsistent throughout the film. it did very well in brightly lit scenes and very poor in dim scenes especially the under water segment

but this is clearly, without a doubt, an upgrade from DVD. the special effects is on par if not better than most of the movies today. and mind you, it first came out in 1999!

After much reflection, head-scratching and bleak thoughts I've decided to completely retire my SW Blu-rays and never return to them. I think the thing that kills it for me is that "Noooooooooo". I read it's linked to the shitty remakes/reboots which I cannot stand -and of course it just reminds me of the 'new' addition to the end of Return of The Jedi. He's done much more of course but that 1st thing is the last straw -the last thing has simply come back to haunt me in 1080p and it's an image I can barely remove from my mind. Maybe people with the attention span of a gnat who think these films are a 6 part 'saga' can live with it but I can't.

If someone had told me 5 years ago I'd get Blu-rays and not keep them and revert to DVDs I'd of laughed -but this is the 2nd time of course. Last time being the ****ing awful Blu-ray of THX-1138. An abomination.

Anyway, I've ripped my 3 untinkered with LE DVDs and shoved them on a 25GB Blu-ray. So at least I can pretend I have Blu-rays

I'm happy with my Laserdisc to DVD of THX-1138 so I can be happy with my original Star Wars DVD9s. I have no other choice.

I have certainly felt the Force of Lucas's mind tricks. What a **** he is. He has stole my memories.

Is there an early DVD release of THX-1138 I don't know about? My DVD copy has the CGI additions etc. did Lucas add even more stuff for the blu?

Hi all

I just got this box set yesterday and started watching the Phantom Menice

Is it just me or are the colours wrong. The orienges and yellows have a greenish tinge to them.

You know when Quagon is sticking his lightsaber into the door that oriange actually looks green to me

I am a little bit disappointed so far

In Some seens they made the characters so sharp and the background left a bit dull which makes it look like they are in a studio?

I hope they are not all like this

The DVD phantom menice was much better

I ported my THX-1138 NTSC Laserdisc over to DVD.

Obviously it's still a Laserdisc transfer (albeit on a DVD) but it's pretty darn stable and Laserdisc ports are not uncommon on DVD (see: Criterion's many 1st run DVDs).

The changes he made to THX-1138 are nothing less than bizarre although he does call it "Director Cut". Silly and a misnomer really because he never gave us any other 'cut' on Blu-ray. It is officially the "cut". That's it.

Where have we seen that before?

I watched the SW DVD9s over the weekend and they were a complete joy. Original start text (don't like the new CGI computerised stuff -doesn't look like film) and everything else you'd expect from films made 20-30 years ago. Not that you'd expect much ie they should always be the same because that's when they were completed, obviously. You know, like in the past.

I really don't understand adding new stuff to old films. If there's one thing that takes you away from the experience it's pasted on CGI creatures. As fond of as I am of old George if he wasn't rolling around in billions in a massive mansion I'm sure his family would have him sectioned for his own good.

Here's a bit more on the THX-1138 changes. We should have seen it coming when he remade his student film Electronic Labyrinth: THX-1138 4EB the early signs were there.

No-one would bat an eyeylid if he gave us the original versions alongside the newer ones.

Well, regardless of whether its "right" or not, it is his prerogative. I do agree, however, that if the originals were released alongside the "updated" versions, there probably wouldn't be a problem. I can't say I'm too fond of the new bit of Darth "voicing" his opinion in Jedi, but it's just the way it is.

This is unbelievable,i had to send mine back on the 16th due to the booklet being ripped inside ,i've waited all this tiime for a replacement so i phoned up today and they said the senitype edition is sold out so i told them i used the 15% off tesco code and got it for just over £52 and just send me the standard set then for the price i paid as i kept the film cell knowing they might not have anymore and they said they cant do that because it has to be like for like.So now it will cost me around an extra £15 to buy it again after they refund me.I'm going to write a letter of complaint.

Yeah tesco are butts with that.

I returned something I had bought with a discount code that was damaged and they wouldn't let me use the code again. Hard cheese, was their line.

The whole movie looks like it has been coloured in with pastels.
