According to Dave Vaughn we should expect to see a lot more of this (if not better). He does not think Toshiba selling any more HD-DVD players will help.

The 85:15 BLU week is now official in the latest HMM 1/20/08, making the best week ever for blu-ray

Also, did you guys look at the individual dual format title ratios?

300 - 28:2, or 14:1 BLU
Blood diamond - 23:6, or 4:1 BLU
Good fellas - 21:6, or 3.5:1 BLU
Harry Potter: Goblet of fire - 22:1 BLU
Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban - 21:1 BLU

Very nice

Which means that besides having a great exclusive in 3:10 to Yuma, blu-ray outsold hd dvd from 4:1 to as much as 22:1 on titles available on both formats

My volume guess for the 85:15 week:

Blu-ray 148,750
HD DVD 26,250

Total HDM volume: 175,000

I estimate that '3:10 to Yuma' sold 25% of the total BD volume (approx. 37,000 units).

On my figures the last time HD DVD performed this badly (in volume terms) was week ending July 22nd, 2007. Blu-ray managed to sell approx. 70,000 units in that week.

FYI In January 2007 Blu-ray (on Nielsen volumes) sold approx. 240,000 units. In January 2008 do you think the volume will be higher or lower?

Suggesting that Blu-ray is selling less than 100,000 units per week (on Nielsen estimates) when - in the North American market - we have over 3 million Blu-ray players (PS3 & standalone) in consumers hands and a significant exclusivity announcement from Warner is, to say the least, highly improbable.

I think it would be reasonable to say that Blu-ray will sell 500,000+ units in January 2008 (that's only 100% up on january 2007). My running total for January stands at approx 280,000 units.

If you disagree let me know why. What do you think Blu-ray will sell this month?

Indeed, would be very interesting see how they'd handle it. There can't be more then 100% in sales, but it can be less then 0%. They would just show 100/0 I guess.

Would you guys believe me if I told you that I was suspended for a week from avsforums for posting sales figures in the sales figure thread in the HD DVD side. All I did was post the picture of nielson. That is all I put. Unreal.

Because you probably made some HD DVD fanboys cry.

Avs is pathetic, I say everyone just boycott that place all together. Less visitors = less ad revenue = their loss

That is one of the reasons I stopped going there, but a long time ago I realized it wasn't a good place to get any kind of information. Too many HD DVD fanboys.

They might. Still, mathematically that would be incorrect.

Say there were 105,000 BD titles sold, 5,000 HD DVD titles sold, and 10,000 HD DVD titles returned. That would be a net of -5,000 HD DVD titles sold, and a net of 100,000 titles sold in both formats. So for BD, you'd have (105,000/100,000)*100=105% and for HD DVD you'd have (-5,000/100,000)*100=-5%.

But I'm just getting greedy now. I'd settle for a nice, big, fat, round zero.

Eh, I have to side with AVS on this. They have the Blu-ray areas and the HD DVD areas, and then they have the area for discussion and debate between the two. It's clear where your post belonged, and I'm sure you knew that.

There's a lot to be upset with AVS about, but suspending someone for going in intentionally trying to rile up people in the HD DVD-only areas is not one of them.

Posting the sales figures? I mean that is all I posted. I did not post the sales figures and then go HA HA HD DUD IS DEAD. I just posted the sales figures. How do you get suspended for a week for that?

Because they have a forum for comparing the two formats, and they are very clear that there is to be no discussion about HD DVD in Blu-ray forums and vice versa. I'm sure you knew that. Right? So I'm just saying of all the legit reasons to be mad at AVS, this self-induced martydom isn't one of them.

Besides, you didn't have to explicitly say, "HA HA HD DUD IS DEAD". When the numbers are 85:15, it's pretty much implied.

Why even bother posting on the HD-DUD side anyway?!? I know it may seem harmless but they probably don't need anymore msgs telling them their stuff is soon to be history. Just stay on the blu side and don't worry about them.

My advice is to JUST FORGET that there's even a Blu-ray/HD-DVD section and enjoy all the other wonderful areas of the forums, if they interest you.

It's quite liberating.

The question to me is what will we have going up against the HD-DVD version of I Am Legend...I don't like that we'll have to be competing with a BD exclusive studio. I can't wait until they just drop them.

People buy or rent the movie the first or second week after that it's just dead. People with both format will likely just buy the BluRay version anyway. I got a friend witch is a dual owner and he will be only stuff from Paramount and Universal for now on..

Can you post the PM you got from the AVS moron that suspended you? I'd like the see the BS explaination they used. I got a point docked because I suggested they amend the rules for insiders so they post what they know instead of their interpretations of hearsay.
