The Tree of Life is a new film starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. I doubt the studio wants to license it to Criterion and share the home video revenue, especially when the film didn't make back its budget in theaters. I wouldn't say never, though - Criterion might very well release it sometime down the road. Badlands is a lot more likely to see a Criterion release. |

its the sequel coming in 2016. supposedly about the existentialist thought regarding peace, rather than war. "why do we get along so well?...what is it in us that makes us want to hug our brother instead of stick a fork in his eye?..."
supposedly shows a dude in a peace corps who breaks away from all the peace and love to fulfill his need to do rampage killings, before the peace corps yanks him back ![]() |

![]() I know that Badlands has been mooted for a Criterion release for a while now, but Warner don't license, so surely even thats a no-go. I think that The New World is far more likely to be picked up by the big C, given that Malick's original cut of that film isn't even available on Blu-ray, although given that that film is now presumably with Warners, following the New Line situation I wouldn't bet on it. |

Badlands will very likely come to Criterion in the next year or two. Warner gave Criterion some titles based on director's wishes, and Malick has a good relationship with Criterion, so its assumed that will be one of them.
Tree of Life might be picked up at some point, but the extras have to be mighty compelling for me to consider a double dip, especially when this release seemingly has perfect A/V. By the way, anyone get shipping notice from amazon yet? |
