The reason I always leave the barcode off, is that I've heard it sometimes causes trouble when trying to get covers printed at places like Kinko's. A UPC-free cover is usually more palatable to the strict enforcers of the no-no on printing copyrighted images.

And they're not very attractive....

My early region 1 Image Entertainment DVD of The Terminator has the UPC on the spine. Talk about an eyesore!
Thanks Bud! I'm not a huge fan of clutter, thats why I love the criterion covers .
I think I'll leave this one alone. I'll play with more later on...

Not strictly a Blu-Ray.... Heck, It's a DVD!
Between all my commissions and other commitments I hardly get to flaunt anything here anymore, so I just wanted to show you this one I'm doing for a fan preservation project.

6-disc DVD case w/27 mm spine. It's a pleasure having so much spine to work with. *Sigh* VHS, where did you go?

Still working on this one.

Tweaked the original 1997 TT's to fit my design, along with my restoration of the John Alvin artworks.

It's wierd to hear someone refer to the "Original" 1997 TT for a movie released in 1980.

Does anyone have a great photoshop template for a 4/6 disc 15mm spine cover? I can't seem to find one nad making one has made my mind turn to mush the past hour.

For reference, I currently use a 300 pixels/inch canvas that is 3159x1767 for my Vortex 12.5mm cases. However the spine on my template is 198 pixels or only 10.85mm. After printing and lining up on the cutter I'm taking off maybe 2-3mm around each edge and the cover fits perfectly in the case covered by the plastic sleeve. I've got 15mm 4/6 disc cases on order but can't find a template that gives me the correct spine. And my brain is just getting confused with the math.

Concept for the Star Wars bonus discs to match my Saga series. I'd like to find a much higher res version of the charater collage or a similar type image (there's a great poster I've seen at Walmart but can't find the image online) and playing with ideas for the back. Also need to fix the spine for a 15mm 4-disc case.

Did some more work. Star Wars is left off the spine because it looks funny next to the set of 6 spanning spines but if someone really wanted it I can add it back in 2 seconds.Still need a better cover poster so if anyone's got this one or something similar shoot me a PM please.

I find the John Alvin artwork works best when the title treatment is at the bottom. Much to my chagrin even the official releases have the tt on top. It boxes the artwork in and makes it look too closed off.

Generally, the Alvin posters need room to breathe, so the less cropping you have to do, the better.

Nice work. I like it. I just wanted to say the image on the font suits the extras discs well. Hope you can find a good scan of it. Otherwise, try a printout and see if it doesn't hold up. Blu-Ray art is very small, after all. Images are more forgiving of low resolution than text is.

The filmstrip on the back is very nice. It crams a lot of information into a small space and is very effective. The Lucas image you've chosen for the background looks far too busy though, even after you've blurred it. The content listing drowns in the background. I think you'd be better off finding another background for the back.

I get what you say about the spanning spines, but if this extras cover were to stand by itself it should have Star Wars on the spine. Perhaps make 2 versions?

Looking forward to following the progress of this cover.

Some synoposis’ and credits added with a more western-looking font.

Made the image on the cover all black since it was pointed out that in the Old West a poster would not include color.

I'd be willing to take nominations for the other two titles.

The white font is a bit difficult to read on the back, perhaps yellow?

OK more work done. Lowered the oppacity on the back image. Changed the back text colour and thickened the stroke. Adjusted the text on the front as well to make it pop a little better. Still wish I could get R2 out of hiding somehow but he's at the very bottom of the image.

Star Wars spine version. I preffer, as an entire collection, without the logo.

As a set.

That's more like it! One thing, how about spanning the spine logo to include the 7th disc?

Did you make a printout to see if the front image holds up?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. You're joking, right?

Actualy I thought of doing it but it would throw so many things out of whack. The STAR WARS would have to be larger vertically and there for move the title text down and require reformatting. Then there's all the copy/paste/marquee/delete/copy/paste/align to do not 6x2 but 7x2!

OK all kidding aside the way I look at it the films are the saga and only spanning the 6 discs makes them the set. The bonus is just that, bonus, and the films can be displayed with out without the bonus. I did name it "The Making of a Saga" to give it more of an archive feel rather than just Bonus Features and honestly having it printed and on my shelf I can't be happier. You know exactly which cases are the films and then there's 1 more before the Clone Wars discs that's mostly black. It just flows very well for my eye.

And yes, I did print it out and the photo held up just fine. Most likely because it's 'art' and not an actual photograph that it doesn't lose any detail because it wasn't there to begin with. Any distortion just kind of adds to the painted feel. Still not happy that R2-D2 is obscured but it works great for now. The text on the back is very ledgible and the film strip pops while the background is just there enough to be interesting but not obtrusive.

I will be uploading both versions to Euphorix so check my sig for the downloads.

In my ongoing effort to come up with useable templates for multi-disc sets I put together this 5-disc Jessica Biel collection set. Finding a cover image that worked proved to be a challenge even though Biel has appeared prominently on a number of movie posters.
I eventually happened across a couple of photos from a photo-shoot (there will inevitably be a Volume II considering how many movies Biel has in the works).
I’m not happy with all the effects I had to use on the TT so I am open to suggestions. I originally had Biel further left but then her hair obscured the spine TT.
