GREAT movies! Actually, I haven't seen Fail Safe yet, but the others you mention are all among my all-time favorites.

Taxi Driver...but if that's not old enough for some reason, then Psycho.

Fail Safe is a great movie with Henry Fonda, Walter Mattheau and a young Larry Hagman. I think of it as the serious version of Dr Strangelove (also a great flick - came out after Fail Safe)

First saw this movie in High School English Class in '84 after we read the book. Definitely recommend everyone seeing if (even if it is not available on blu-ray

The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) tops my list.

Here's a few of mine...

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Released over 40 years before I was born, I grew up watching it once a year, on Sunday nights, and later on VHS. I only saw it once or twice on DVD, but the Blu-Ray is phenomenal.

Cinderella (1950)

Having seen so many of the classic Disney films numerous times in my childhood, this is definitely one of my favorites, along with "Alice in Wonderland", "Peter Pan", "101 Dalmatians", "Sword in the Stone", and "The Jungle Book". My favorite scenes in "Cinderella" are the musical numbers, the mice, and the furious banter between the King and the Grand Duke ("Sire, your blood pressure!" "Traitor!!!")

Mary Poppins (1964)

Great characters, excellent music, lots of laughs, and a wonderful story through it all. Need I say more?

The Sound of Music (1965)

Anyone who doesn't enjoy this film is sorely lacking a soft heart. Its a masterpiece, in almost every sense of the word. To this day, I know almost all the songs from memory.

"Superman" (1978)

Before greed, paranoia, and lots of control issues screwed everything up, there was this film...and in spite of all the hassle, Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz made what many consider to be the standard for all comic-based films to come. Unfortunately, every other entry in the series has paled by comparison, and the new "Man of Steel" project looks like its continuing the terrible tradition.

So many to chose from, but I guess the oldest movie that I love is:
Buster Keaton's Sherlock Jr.(1924)

Going for "Lawrence of Arabia" then. "Metropolis" would get the honor of being my favorite silent movie, but I don't love it quite as much as "LoA."

The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind (both from 1939). These may be old but look stunning on Blu!

What I perceive to be an old film is one made prior to 1960. With that said, my favourite old film is Gone with the Wind from 1939.

1. Inherit the Wind (1960)...Spencer Tracy at his Best. It's based on the "Monkey Trial" in the Bible belt of the Southeastern United States during the 1920's.

2. 12 Angry Men (1957)...12 people, 1 room and an OUTSTANDING script.

3. Fear Strikes Out (1957)...The Jimmy Pearsall story. Anthony Perkins as troubled Major Leaguer Jimmy Pearsall. Perkins throws and catches like a girl (he's obviously never dawned the spikes) but has no problem convincing the audience he's unbalanced. Karl Malden as Pearsall's pushy, abrasive father.

4. Rear Window (1954)...Hitchcock's Best film (IMHO)

5. The Grapes of Wrath (1940)...A heart felt testament to the "human spirit" and importance of family. A young Henry Fonda as the lead character.

I hope so at one point! My DVD is not bad but it's not great either and I am sure a Blu-ray would look so much better

It has sentimental value. I saw it for the first time during an "old movie night" at our high school band camp, so it was fun watching it with a group of friends. Even though it is tame by today's standard, the fact that you never knew where the "Thing" was made it suspenseful, and I like the character interaction, which is something I also like about "The Birds".

Yep, that's also what really grabbed me too: the character interaction in it.

The oldest movie I love... Pinocchio. The old movie I love the most... Bridge on the River Kwai. Although I guess it depends what qualifies a movie as old.
