Default CASINO ROYALE For First 500,000 PS3s in Europe

Quote:
Yup, as per the rumours, the first 500,000 people who register their PS3 in Europe will get a copy of Casino Royale on Blu-ray (a 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc encoded in 1080P High Definition AVC, to be incredibly precise!).

Explaining the offer, Darren Carter, VP Brand and Consumer Marketing said, “The PLAYSTATION®Network unlocks the broad range of interactive entertainment features of PLAYSTATION 3. It’s easy to set up, offers free online gaming, has great tools for staying in touch with friends and family, and includes a wide variety of content for download through the PLAYSTATION®Store.”

“All this, and more, will enable users to experience a whole new world of interactive entertainment, and that is why we are offering the phenomenal incentive of Casino Royale, on Blu-ray disc, to PS3 owners who register on the PLAYSTATION®Network. Casino Royale not only makes the most of the features and capabilities of the Blu-ray format, but is one of the most exciting and entertaining movies to debut on Blu-ray this year.”

And here’s some more info that will be of interest -

* Don’t assume that because you’ve pre-registered via the website for Player ID that you will automatically be signed up for the Casino Royale Promotion. To get Casino Royale you must connect your PS3 to the network and register your console.

* There will be no extra copies of Casino Royale available if demand exceeds 500,000.

* If you live in France, Italy or Benelux you’ll receive your copy shortly after the movie is launched in your particular territory

Good Lord!

I tell you: It's too bad the earlier PS3 launch didn't have a grade A, compelling title like that to be handed out vs. Tallgaeda Nights.

That's impressive. Between that and the games finally starting to show up in March: That's 500,000 guaranteed uber fast sold PS3's right there.

Wow that is one hell of a treat for you guys in PAL land.

EDIT:

But, how will SCEE know if the users that will be registering are really from PAL teritorries?

Oh yeah....

The PAL version consoles have their own respective model number (different from the NTSC model nos)

I'll keep my CR preorder with PLAY.com just incase. Plus I want to watch it day 1, not wait weeks for the freebie to arrive.

A pity they don't just pack the discs in with PS3's like they did Tallgaeda Nights here in the West.

I assume of course that SCE would either ask on your receipt, proof of purchase.

Or SCE would do an online scan of your PS3 version and model number to check if it is a PAL version once you register

???

Interesting that the disc is a 50GB one, instead of the "promo" 25GB one for TN in the US.

Per the first post, some countries are lagging on foreign titles. So packing it in automatically is not going to be a good move for Sony PE.

Is anyone sure its a BD50? Could just be a bare bones version just like Talladega nights was in a BD25. I wouldn't doubt it. And if you want the full version, you'll have to get the BD50.

That would make sense, this would be kind of like a taster, and you have to buy the full version in stores. Exactly the same routine as TN, but with a better film.

At least they are getting a good movie for having to wait so long for the launch of the system.

Yeah, but let's face it: It's crap compared to something like a James Bond film.

Here's what I wish they'd do here instead and maybe this can still happen.

In the West, how many PS3's had TN packed in physically? The entire launch batch of 90,000 or however many it was?

I realize that 500,000 or so is a completely different number, and maybe they couldn't have 500,000 physically packed in CR discs ready to go with each of those systems (although I think they could)...so... why not have the first 100,000 or so PS3's out there get lucky with physical CR discs and the rest of them go through this process outlined in the first post?

Why?

Have you all ever noticed how lazy and/or forgetful people are when it comes to mail in rebates or any other kinds of extra hurdles like that?

I'm speaking from repeated, guilty, firsthand experience.

I just hate to see an obviously grand BD penetration and enticement oppurtunity not fully taken advantage of.

And some good games.

The PS3 launch in November was a glorified paper launch. This is the other foot dropping. This is the rest of the real launch that finishes it.

I can't see you all having anywhere near the kinds of needless troubles we had here back in November. 500,000 is a night and day difference over less than 100,000 units.

Its good to see that Sony is trying to make up for the late release. Its only fair that Europe should get a better launch since they had to wait 6months extra.

JTK, the first 400 or 500k US systems got Talladega Nights packed in free. And the euro James Bond offer is too easy, you just sign up for a online account, and via through that information you enter your personal information anyway, and they will just mail you the disc automatically. No need to do anything. Seems very well thought out to me.

Great news for UK+Europe AND Blu-ray. I agree with others, this is a nice "thank you for waiting". UK+Europe deserves this.

I wonder how the fanbois are going to spin this one?
