But you don't think that amp can really put out 800 watts, do you? Or that it can dig as low as 20Hz? If you do, then I have some ocean front property in Montana I'd like to sell you... ![]() |

I hadn't been there in a while, so just for the heck of it I checked DD's ebay page. There's only 3 HD-SUB10's, and that's it. Last time I looked they had a ton of stuff. Are they discontinuing the AA line, or is it perhaps DD has opted to sell almost exclusively from their own webpage? Something else maybe?

Does adding polyfill void the factory warranty and any safety issues related to it's use inside the subwoofer cabinet?

In my case, I never cared about the warranty and added polyfill to my AA subs, widened the openings, and changed the drivers. I suppose the Big Daddy warranty is worth more the warranty by the Deep Discount. ![]() To understand the benfits of adding polyfill, read Post #2 of the https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers...upgrading.html thread. This is one of the most insightful product forums that I have visited. I had my RW 15 sub for 4 days and it performs great. I re-did my auto-calibration last night and to my surprise, the settings changed dramatically. I did not move the subwoofer from it's normal position. The setting went from +3.5 to -3.0. This points to the fact that a break-in period occurs and the sub improves in function, sound quality, and efficiency over a couple of day. So, for new purchaser, sit back and relax.

Big Daddy, is this considered a ported sub and is the slit opening on the bottom, the part that you suggested to enlarge? Just curious.

No, I was not talking about increasing the slot port. I was talking about increasing the diameter of the driver opening in case you want to replace the driver. |

I have one LFE input on my receiver, can I connect to subs with y connector and not loose bass or volume? I know 2 sub's is suppose to smooth out the bass in the room. Some people say one good sub is the best option for HT.

![]() You can adjust the level of each sub independently so that they give you exactly the same level of output in your main listening area. The people who say one subwoofer is the best option for HT do not have any idea what they are talking about. Even my little doggy knows that two subwoofers are better than one for all HT applications. ![]() Tell them to read https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers...oom-modes.html. Many people on this form use different brand subs, Brand should not be as important as sub setup, position and and size since low frequency sound is coming from the subwoofer. My point is that until you get pass the $700 dollar range the AA subs should perform as well as some of the other popular brand if not even better. How correct is this assumption?

Maybe I should ask, that since voice and timber matching are not crucial for a sub, that until you get into THX or other advance subs, the AA is as good as epik, emotiva, klipsch and other brands in the under $700 market. True or false?

I wouldn't say the AA is as good as epik or emotiva. The AA are excellent subs in the price range they are in. They will definitely hold their own with most big box store subs price at twice the price but internet direct subs are another ball game. Epik and Emotiva would be better compared with name brand big box store subs in the around $800-$1k mark. No subs do not need to be timber match but sometimes when using two different subs you hear different outputs at different frequencies since enclosure, drivers and amps are not identical.. and then there is placement and phase correction to play with.

I have now hooked up 3 HD12s, unfortunately there is no more room. For the money they are doing a great job. I have two splitters on top of each other, coming out of my onkyo 705. I calibrated each sub individually, with the others off. They sound great to me. I now have to run Audessey.

I am thinking of getting a second sub. I have the RWsub 15in audiophile and I was thinking of getting a AA 12 HD sub (black) to pair up with the 15in sub. I know you said get identical subs, but due to room asthetics, I would like something smaller. Will this work well since they have different wattage amplifiers and drivers?

First post!
Just got my HD-Sub10 in the mail today. After playing a bunch with settings I was finally able to get it to actually produce some sound, but I'm wondering what the gain level should be set at. What are some of the levels you guys are using? Below about half way it does almost nothing, and right around 5/6 it starts to pick up in volume. It is hooked up through the subwoofer out on my receiver with a y adapter, and plugged into the right and left on the sub. Using it with a Denon AVR-2105 receiver and a pair of Mordaunt-Short Carnival 2's. Thanks! |

All subwoofers take a while to break in, and will generally sound weak when you first use them. I wouldn't really consider doing any critical listening -- or evaluation -- for at least a dozen hours. As time goes on what you'll often find is the sound will become richer and more full-bodied, forcing you to turn the gain down some. What do you have the subwoofer output set at in your AVR? I also turn that up a few dB during break in, and like the gain I'll usually need to turn it back down as the subwoofer breaks in. |
