Default Gold Rush Alaska???

Spoiler Alert!!! I'm just curious here, has anyone seen the Gold Rush Alaska Show? I haven't found many in depth forums or info on the show on line about the latest that happened on the 2nd season. It's not going to be released on blu-ray as far as I know. But I watched the show and it had a big impact on me. It may be scripted a bit but the show is about American men that have come on hard times due to the economy and they are all on the verge of losing everything. Everyone of them has a lot to lose. So they decide to take on a massive risk into the unknown and uncertain and to go to Alaska and go gold mining. I was drawn in very quickly with the 1st season and was distraught and very disturbed by the 1st episode of the second season. The way the 1st season starts is amazing to me to watch men combine their efforts and I could clearly see it happening in the 1800's as people set of to find fortune and support their families. And right when they finally start to make headway at the end of the 1st season the Alaskan winter comes in and shuts them down. Then in the 1st episode of the 2nd season the claim is unfairly but legally taken out from under them after all their trial and error, hard work and money lost. I am curious as to what other viewers though about the show and the situation.

Spoiler Alert!!! Some of my views on the show are, 1st the men should have not mistreated Dakota Fred. They should have looked at the situation with him as largely needed help and valuable input on the mining process since he had mined before and apparently successfully. 2nd the guys found the old hole that Earl had mined before and started working with the soft dirt 1st witch yielded almost nothing. No one stopped to think it had been mined before to at least 20-30 feet and Earl said he couldn't go deeper than that due to limitations in equipment back then. They started getting gold once they got deeper than Earl was able to mine. 3rd they should have sat down and talked to Dakota Fred and let him know his input was very valuable to them but don't overstep his boundaries or on their toes since he is not the one paying for the operation. And that the men have much to lose and that they may be on edge or even confrontational. Then I was shocked at the fact that Dakota Fred to the claim out from under them the way he did after they had done all the hard work. What bothers me is I have a feeling that Dakota Fred is of well financially and what he did boils down to greed as he was able to cough up $80,000 with almost no questions asked for Todd's equipment. The men where all down on their luck and didn't deserve that. The thing is, to me what ever he gets from that mining area is dirty money and when we do things like that in life it always comes back to haunt us and bites us or even our children in the butt later on down the line. And if it was Earls land why did he wait till someone else did the hard and dirty work??? If it was my land I would have been mining it every year that I owned it.

That was a frustrating season premier. After nothing but drama and struggle last season I was ready for the guys to finally have a victory. Instead they get the biggest slap in the face yet.
I'll start by saying that this episode reeks of scripting. The whole Dakota Fred takeover at the exact moment of the Hoffman crew's first real success could have been pulled right out of a Greek tragedy. It is almost too much to believe. But, assuming that it is all real, it has just become the most depressing show on tv. Dakota Fred is a snake, and the Hoffmans are idiots. If they had not missed a payment on their lease, Fred would not have been able to snake it from underneath them. And why did they miss a payment? The were up in the Yukon trying to get a second claim, rather than securing the future of the one they have. Where did the money for a second claim even come from I wonder? The were broke at the start of last year, and then did nothing but lose money all year long. How were they to handle a second claim? I'd feel more sorry for the Hoffmans if they didn't always leave the door open for misfortune to enter. Not that any of that makes Fred's actions acceptable, he is still a slime.
I was excited for this season, but after that episode I have lost a lot of interest.

I'm sure that the Discovery Channel is paying them well. I saw on the Disc Channel it said it was the #1 show. I'm sure if they are getting extra money it is from the Disc Channel. I think it may be scripted to a point but some of those emotions are real and just can't be faked easily. And I'm sure they made out well wherever they decided to go because I saw Todd and the guy who owned the Quarry business on fox and friends a few days ago and they seemed really happy at the outcome of their second endeavor out in Alaska but they would not reveal their take so they wouldn't spoil the show.

This is a good show.

I don't like the scripting part, but meh - if you realize that 95% of this stuff is going in, it doesn't bother you as much.

Old Jack is crazy, lol. Love that dude when he gets all crazy about the take over and drives his 400 over that river bed solo, lol.

I totally LOVE this show...it's all about he PAYDIRT!!!

...and I can't believe how hard team Hoffman got screwed!

The Porcupine Creek glory hole is so primed and ready its REDICULOUS. Dakota Fred is going to be rolling in filthy-rich paydirt.

It was so good to see the team off to such an amazing start (for a change), even though it only lasted a minute. I'm really anxious to see what happens this week with their venturing north to the Klondike...

Yeah I felt really bad for the guys and I know it's just a show but it bothered me for a few days after I had watched it what Fred had done. And I'm sure Dakota Fred is doing well financially anyways.

It's very scripted, in the premier they say they are less than 3 weeks away from going to Alaska and don't have the funds for equipment. Then they decide to get the funds they will sell part of their airport to raise the money, I can't see how in this economy you can put something like that on the market and sell it in less than 3 weeks unless they've had someone begging them to sell it to them for years.

I'm guessing either the Klondike licenses they need will come through at the last minute or they will some how figure out a loop hole that allows them to get back on porcupine creek or a neighboring claim and mess with Fred all season.

Lol team Hoffman set up right next to Porcupine Creek and spend the rest of the season messing with Dakota Fred, flooding his glory hole, etc...

I have mixed feelings about the way they handled the new episode. We went from focusing on one claim/one story (the Hoffman's), to all of a sudden now three. I liked how drawn-in you got into the events of season 1. I think if they keep up with this 3-story format that the show may get too spread out...

I thought I was the only one, but the way they keep saying "the glory hole" and "virgin ground" is very disturbing to me. Im not sure why though. Seriously, I wish they would stop saying that.

Yeah it seemed like a whole lot of nothing was accomplished besides them getting a claim. But I had a feeling the show was gonna waste most of the time on them finding a new claim. I really wanted to see if they where gonna start mining but they may not even start by the end of the next show.

Maaaan! That last show sucked!!! Now the show is becoming stale! I had a feeling they wouldn't even start mining and I still don't think they will throw all the equipment and pieces together in the next show to even start. I like the show the premise and characters but I have a feeling they may drag it to the end of the show and season till they finally make it big. I could even see them putting the gold aside that they do find and saving it for the last few shows.

My guess is if the Hoffman's don't find gold they will be too broke to come back for another season. Which means if Discovery wants to keep the show going they have to find other people to follow which means the 2 mines at Porcupine Creek and Big Nugget.

Massive thread bump, but no real need to create a new thread for the new season..

Is anyone watching the Season 4 premier? I read that it's going to be two hours? Hopefully it doesn't just re-cap the 4 special episodes from earlier this year.

Wow, big time thread bump again for the end of the current season

Season finale was pretty epic, great results from Parker and Hoffman. Tony Beets came up short, but he was going into it with a huge risk.

The speech from Grandpa John during the final weigh in from Parker, truly brought a tear to my eye.
