I checked your collection to make sure you didn't have it. It is the very epitome of all the things you listed there. It also has pretty much the best video quality of any blu-ray I have ever seen. The audio is absolutely amazing as well. |

Going off what I've seen on Blu and what I interpret "Slow Burn" to mean (slower, atmospheric, often but not always dark, character-driven), here's what I can think of:
I second Solaris or anything by Tarkovsky, like, The Sacrifice (slow burn, literally) Stone (personal favorite, really overlooked) Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (a true winner if you can sit through it) ![]() Cache (Region Free Import title, but I must recommend) Revanche (a hidden gem of "slow burn" films) Still Walking Harakiri (devastating) My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? The Mission Rivers and Tides (a great doc - about art. Very serene.) The Wrestler There Will Be Blood Days of Heaven Ran Kagemusha White Material Fargo Winter's Bone I hinted at it, but I think "Slow Burn" is more often than not easy to find by filmmaker, since it's often part of their usual mood and narrative design. Terence Malick, Tarkovsky, Kore-eda, Naomi Kawase, Claire Denis (Beau Trevail is not on blu but if you're into "slow burn", it's a must-see), Werner Herzog, late Kurosawa, Ozu, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Hou Hsiou-Hsien, Kenji Mizoguchi, mid-to-late Almodovar (Talk to Her, Volver, Bad Education), Wong Kar-Wai, more I am definitely forgetting. |
