When the 'page' finishes loading, hold the left mouse button on the 'wobble' and start rubbing it.

Default What happened to Heavy Rain?

This game was announced a while ago but I haven't heard anything new on it in a long time. Anyone heard anything? It looked interesting.

I don't think they're ready to splurge any details yet. SCE's concentrating on its big first and third party holiday titles now.

Indigo Prophecy (or Farenheit) went on sale on XBox live earlier this month. I own it for PS2, but my friend had never played it so I made sure he bought it.

Even though I've played through it, just watching him play reminded me of how awesome and fun that game is. The gameplay is so simple, but SO fun. Who knows what they're planning to do with this next game, but can you imagine the possibilities if they use this same gameplay style? I'm referring to the analog stick simon-like gameplay. They could incorporate the sixaxis movement AND analog sticks-- that would be intense.

Again, it's that emotional gameplay and complete immersion they aim for. Though the analog-style gameplay is so simple-- the fact that it is so fast paced, and the intensity of the story makes you completely on the edge of your seat as if you are the character. The sixaxis I'm SURE they are going to be using a great deal to add to that immersion.

Hello everyone. Been reading this forum for a few weeks and finally joined. I'm glad to see other Indigo Prophecy fans. I enjoyed the whole game as opposed to most people/reviewers that hate the end part of the game. I'm really looking forward to this game. I haven't read much on it but I was a fan of Indigo and enjoyed what I played of Omikron.

Hey-- Welcome to the forums!

I was a really big fan myself, so I can't wait to hear more about this game. I'm just hoping we see it in 08. Certainly, Indigo Prophecy was not received well by alot of people. It's sad how underrated this game was-- it was truly incredible.

Quantic eyes Hollywood A-list for Heavy Rain

Quote:
"But today, I can officially announce that there is no uncanny valley any more, not in real-time.

"With our next project we're going to demonstrate with hundreds of characters that we can have extremely realistic characters that not only move like real actors but express themselves through facial animations and speech like real actors, and are extremely accurate to the actors they are portraying," he added.

Omikron! That was a great game on Dreamcast, and for it's time it was the most immersive game environment I had experienced. I've been drooling over Heavy Rain since I first saw the tech demo, and my enthusiasm for this game just continues to grow.

Bit optimistic considering we haven't even seen the game properly yet.

Quantic Dream has been pretty tight-lipped about their newest project, Heavy Rain, because all we have so far is a brief trailer and a movie poster, and neither really tell us much about the actual game. However, according to Excel Gaming Network and other sources, the developer has talked a bit about the technical aspects of the title, and how they want a more "theatrical experience" that would be similar to a real Hollywood production. For those in-the-know, you're already aware of Quantic's emphasis on top-notch motion-capturing, and that should be outstanding once again in Heavy Rain.

Obviously, this means the team is going to need real actors capable of delivering a worthy performance. Games are rapidly getting better and better in this area, as we saw excellent acting performances from games like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and The Darkness in 2007. Quantic may take things to yet another level, though, as they're rumored to be in contact with a variety of A-list actors including Leonardo DiCaprio. That would be just another step for the industry, wouldn't you say? This is relatively big news, but some are still wondering why this project should be limited to the PlayStation 3. Why did Quantic Dream choose to make Heavy Rain a PS3 exclusive?

Well, first off, Sony is publishing the game, so that right there is a hint. But there are some legitimate tech-related reasons as well- the Cell processor is a beast when it comes to the mathematics the team will require for this game's physics. Furthermore, in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Quantic co-founder Guillaume de Fondaumière said it's "extremely difficult to create games of the same visual quality" on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. In the end, he admits you just have to throw a lot of money at the problem to insure very similar versions on both platforms; either that, or you end with lesser quality ports. Clearly, Quantic believes the PS3 is the system that will help them realize their vision of Heavy Rain, and they're going to focus all their attention on making it great.

The game details remain hazy to say the least, but from what little we've seen, it appears to have a dark, intense atmosphere similar to that of Indigo Prophecy. But that's about all we know. The good news is that Quantic is evidently working on "something playable," so perhaps we'll see a demo on the PlayStation Store in the near future. Heavy Rain only has a "TBA 2008" release date, but some are wondering if "TBA 2009" isn't more accurate. We'll keep you apprised of any new info on the game, and when/if they decide to throw up a demo.

I could be wrong but I don't think ps3 has enough memory to render at that quality in real time and even if it does it will probably have screen tear of hell.

Rendering power has little to do with on-board memory, and more to do with graphic memory and processing speed. Bear in mind that in cinematic scenes they cut down heavily on extraneous processing and focus on the scene effects, so what you see in that video is quite possible in real-time rendering on a PS3. There's not a lot of complex lighting, just a fair number of polygons and shaders. I don't see much that is extremely demanding in that clip, though the tech behind how to get the facial expressions and eye movement working correctly is, no doubt, quite sophisticated.
