My review of Part 1 in 3D, just about one of the worst ive seen; and I skipped the bad ones. Everything looks very forced. The sharpness is completely lost. And the areas that are supposed to be in the background looks like someone ran a photoshop blur filter on it. The most part of the 3d "pop out" affect, reminds me that of Tron. AKA, nothing. There are times you can see the depth without noticing the badly forced background look and it looks ok. But in the still/without heavy motion scenes you can tell its quite fake. There were some scenes like the Cloud Chase in the start of the film arn't as terrible and actually look good.

But in the end, I can see why it never made it to the theaters. I would have hoped with the bad news that came from the transfer that they would have done better.

As I started playing the movie, I stopped it just to verify everything was working correctly it looks that bad to me.

I second that, I watched the first five minutes and then skipped through a few chapters. Ghosting everywhere and the 3D looks, well, fake. Hopefully, Part 2 looks better, but at least it didn't cost $40 or I'd be pissed.

I agree. The 3D effect was promising in the beginning with some pop-out effects and depth perception in the first hour but as the scenes got darker later on in the movie, depth perception was not as great and there was a lack of clarity. Still, I'm glad I got see Part 1 in 3D. I'll give the video quality 3/5.

Really disappointed to hear that about Part 1's 3D.

I thought they'd at least make it consistent with Part 2's 3D.

Shame.

I tested out the first 30 minutes of Part 1 3-D last night and was very underwhelmed. At least Thor had some brighter scenes that occasionally looked like they were in 3-D. I honestly couldn't see any difference between this and 2-D. After the surprisngly good post-conversion on Captain America, this was a letdown.

I'll give Part 2 a look when I get a chance.

$5 is $5 no matter how you slice it. The savings is the same for everyone. Even you.

Thanks Klownicle,
I went straight to Part 2 and found that the 3D in that one looks as good as it did in the theater.

Ghosting is an artifact from the display your using and the type of 3D glasses/technology your using for reconstruction of the visual 3D image. There is no ghosting/crosstalk present on either of the different angled 2D images encoded on the disc.

I need to see part 1! The dark scenes in part 2 were not an issue with the Sony personal 3D viewer. The two OLED displays (an independent one for each eye) have no problem with the darkest environments. It's the same as watching a 2D movie in the theater, a different angle for each eye. Filtering from glasses degrades light & clarity from the darkest images in any format.

Would you advise to watch Part 1 in 2D instead of 3D?

I watched part 2 in 3D last night and I thought it looked very good. The 3D was very natural and it enhanced the viewing of the movie. I also saw the movie in the theaters in 3D and I thought it looked and sounded better at home on my 61" Samsung LED DLP plus HD 5.1 sound.

I bought both parts.

I already had the movie only version of part 1.

Sounds like I ought to return the 3D copy of part 1.

I hope it's better than people say it is.... people who have seen it say the 3D sux.

interesting comments. I watched Deathly Hallows 1 3D on my new Panasonic PT-AE7000 3D projector on a 120" screen and loved it. Not the best 3D I've seen at all but still nice depth and a cool way to watch DH1 again in a new medium.

Worth the $23 I paid for it at Best Buy but this is certainly not Avatar, or even Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

I just noticed that they took down the 3D version of part 2 on Best Buy's website. I wonder why? Glad I already preordered. They still haven't shipped yet though.

Thank you for that.
It's nice to see at least one nice review of this. Maybe I'll give it a watch after all.

Thinking I'll return Part 1. $23 is a good price for a 3D title, but it's still a lot more than the 2D version is selling for. I'll keep the 3D Part 2 and get the 8 film collection from Amazon UK for $47.

Was down at the local BB--
Picked up a 3D copy off the big colorful display (the one selling all the Potter Blu's and DVD's, and telling us "10 years of magic would disappear" in January).
And got all the way to the checkout counter before discovered, ewww!...I almost bought Part 1 by mistake!

For some reason, Pt. 1 was not only the only 3D Blu in the display, but a sign on the display advertising "Best Buy Exclusives" implied that Pt. 1 was the only 3D exclusive BB was offering.
After asking a clerk, found out they DID have 3D Pt. 2 after all, but it was "hidden" away without fanfare in the regular New Releases and 3D shelves.

Hmm....
Could it be that BB/Warner are just a little too eager to make back their 3D conversion expenses on Pt. 1 over Pt. 2, since they couldn't in the theaters?

(But, got my Pt. 2 safe and sound--Hadn't even seen it in theaters, so if nobody else has still posted on it by midnight, I'll take a peek at the 3D without spoiling myself...Sounds like the good, professional studio time paid on Pt 2's theatrical conversion paid off.
And okay, let's hear it: Yes, I did a blind buy...Shaddup. And I'd have rented it from 3DBR.com like any normal human being, if it hadn't been an exclusive and Warner wasn't doing that vault crap by the end of next month.)
