Don't expect jack from the 4th and 5th film. These were made like five years after the third film to just cash in on the series. And they're both short as hell. I think both of those films were 75 minutes each.

Even though the second and third films were straight to video, they were entertaining. The last time I had seen them was back when the third film came out in like 1999 or 2000. And I managed to catch the the third film dubbed in German a few years back when I lived in Germany.

Writers need to stop using the term "DVD upscale". It almost certainly is not literally an upscaled 480i image. It is fine to say it is "almost like a DVD upscale", as a simile. But there are many people who, on reading that, would think it is an upscaled picture. Also there's no such thing as an anamorphic BluRay.

I received my copy from Amazon yesterday. I didn't have time to watch it, but I sampled a few scenes. It definitely is OAR, but the picture quality is pretty bad. I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it really is over the DVD. The transfer appears to be HD, but it really doesn't have much detail. Too bad Lionsgate didn't pick this one up instead of Echo Bridge.

From Matt Fini over at AVS:
I was sent this Blu-ray to review for Dread Central, so I've seen it. It doesn't look all that great, to be honest. The image isn't clean, nor is it very detailed. It's a DVD upscale, more or less. It's better than the old Dimension DVD, however, and it's anamorphic to boot so I guess that's a plus. This flick IS NOT cropped at 1.78:1, despite what the back of the box claims. 2.35:1 (or 2.39? - I'm not sure entirely) all the way. Heck, I'm in - they kept the OAR, and I think it's been pretty well established that Echo Bridge isn't gonna be changing it's way even if nobody buys it. The DVD was non-anamorphic and "Digital Stereo" only, so I'm willing to spend ~$10-12 for this. |

The aspect ratio news is good (cancelled my pre-order due to the possibility of the wrong ratio), but I'll need to see picks before I order it again as I do still have the HDNet Movies version and lesser video quality (especially an upscale) would not be worth the purchase.
