Is the reviewer crazy, out of his mind or blind? I'm thinking none of those. According to him the 3D conversion manages to ruin the regular 2D quality too in shots where 3D was not even used.

There is so much controversy regarding the reviews.

The actual 3D experience will vary from one set-up to another because of numerous factors (LED/LCD/Plasma/Projector, Active Shutter/Passive, Make and Model, Screen Size, Calibration, In-room Lighting, Viewing distance from screen etc.)

Let our own eyes be our judge.

Seems the reviews range from mediocre to bad. Another case study for the simple fact that if you have the resources to shoot in 3D choosing to convert makes absolutely no sense

Still I agree that highdefdigests review is way too negative. You will never mistake the conversion for native 3D but it still has moments that add to the movie and in my opinion the 3D option is easily worth the extra $3

I watched deathly Hallows 1 last night in 3D.
I'm not sure what people were expecting, but I thought it looked just fine.
Some people thought it sucked.
If you are looking for objects popping out of the screen, go to a theater.
If you're looking for nice depth, this has plenty of it.
I must say though, in very dark scenes, the effect does go away quite a bit.
But indoors, and in daylight, it looked great.

Would like to interject here that the 3D "effect" is still there on the encoded disc for future compatibility. It is just going to take some time for capable display's to be able to render it like the OLED's can on the Sony HMZ-T1 head mounted device. That technology has the best shadow-detail rendering I've ever seen on any consumer display, IMO equivalent to 2D quality movie theater projection rendition.

We were expecting a quality 3D release and we didn't get one. The depth is extremely minimal, if at all, and the picture looks terrible. There's a reason 99% of the people who watch it are really disappointed in it...and it's not because it has "nice depth".

And why would I go to a theater for "pop out"? The Home 3D releases mimic exactly that of the theatrical release. You could have said "if you want pop out, get My Bloody Valentine, Step Up 3D, Hubble 3D, Beauty and the Beast, Final Destination, ad nauseum.

I watched Part 2 in 3D last night and it was an awesome experience. The 3D was very emersive. When
[Show spoiler]Voldemort dies, his ashes literally looked like they were floating in my living room
. That how awesome.

Guys, please... I'm going to the US this december and wanted to get both HP 3D from BestBuy. I just saw on their website that Part 1 isn't available for store pick-up... it's an on-line exclusive now? Or is it still available on stores? Thanks!

Reviewers use different equipment which give different results.

Just checked that site and found that Nate Boss did the 3D review. According to the equipment listed, he viewed part 2 in 3D on:
- Panasonic Viera TC-46PGT24 46" Plasma 1080P 3D HDTV
- Panasonic DMP-BDT300

I have the same model TV and the BD player in my bedroom. I can understand why Mr. Boss gave part 2 such a bad review

I've personally now have seen the movie on 3 different displays and fortunately I now know the movie on-the-disc can look as good as it did at the 3D theater showing I went to. Others mile may vary.

See comments about it in my post #277 .

Mine was on Panny Viera LED and a PS3--
And yeah, wouldn't call it 100% perfect, but it wasn't Alice in Wonderland, either. Looked serviceable enough for a Warner theatrical conversion.
(I can see how Pt. 1's fuzzy-wuzzy backgrounds could be worse on a sloppier conversion job, so I've overcome my completism urges to get that one.)

She fell for the fan-fame, and fell HARD.

I'd rather have Yates directing the dark finales than Chris Columbus, but it was nice to have the original quirky 1&2 scriptwriter back on Episode 6. Felt like it was balancing the gloomy danger of the later stories with the charm of the characters, which balance Ep. 3 dropped the ball on completely.

My basic impression is the Part 1 is decidedly disappointing 3D (IMO on a par with Gulliver's Travels and The Last Airbender), while Part 2 is better-than-average 3D, particularly for a conversion.

I haven't seen Part 2 yet, but I couldn't watch Part 1 after 30 minutes. It's just a lousy conversion. And maybe it couldn't have looked that great regardless due to it being a conversion and a dark movie on top of that.

Then again, Alice In Wonderland wasn't exactly a bright and sunny film and that looked fantastic in 3D. But that's an example of the filmmakers actually knowing in advance it would be converted and devoting enough time and planning to doing it right.

I already have Part 1 2D on BD and can get a mint Part 2 2D BD locally for $10. I don't know if I should stick with them or buy the 3D's.

If you want the "original theatrical presentation", you can save money with the 2D Part 1.

Neither film was MEANT to be seen in 3D. They were shot and edited and planned for 2D, the 3D was added later in production and well after they finished shooting. Even though the conversion for Part 2 was apparently good, you won't be losing anything by watching it in 2D.

The price difference on Part 2 makes it an easy choice- Buy the 3D. Its decent, if not amazing, and you only pay a $2 premium to have the choice of watching it either way.

Part 1 is another matter. Its gotten terrible reviews for 3D quality AND its a $15 price premium for 3D. In that case, I'd probably steer you to the 2D version.

You do know the Steve Kloves (the scriptwriter) wrote ALL of the films except for the fifth one?
