I know most people here think Criterion can do no wrong.....but....is Tiny Furniture really worthy of a Criterion release?! Another baffling choice.

This is also incorrect. Criterion did not own the rights and there is nothing thery could have done to retain them.

Most excited for World on a Wire myself. I'll pick up the Vanya and Anatomy of a Murder too. Maybe on Tiny Furniture, Three Outlaw Samurai and the Chris Marker upgrade.

Great selection of titles this month. I will be getting World on a Wire, Anatomy of a Murder, La Jetee/Sans Soleil, Vanya on 42nd Street, and Three Outlaw Samurai.

I'm very intrigued by World on a Wire and La Jetee/Sans Soleil. I love sci-fi and will have to watch those before they come out on Criterion BD.

I've enjoyed each. Bold ones are favorites.
Awesome. I ordered all of these except for the Dusan Makavejev and Kenji Mizoguchi's Fallen Women. I'm very excited to delve into this line!

At the same time, the rumblings I've heard say they have 2 of his movies for blu-ray release in 2012 and those are Stray Dog and Drunken Angel. Both are wonderful movies and I would be proud to own them, but they aren't Throne Of Blood, Rashomon, Red Beard, Hidden Fortress or even his best non-samurai film, The Bad Sleep Well.

I also guess they're never gonna release Madadayo on its own. I'm not buying that laughably overpriced box set to get one movie.

And let's not forget for a moment their debacle with Ran. Lost the rights less than a month before release and didn't make one single damned effort to retain them.
Ridiculous statements all around. Criterion has a ton of titles they're working on, and can't possibly release everything all at once - both in terms of the work involved, and the flooding of the market that would result. Plenty of Kurosawa has been released on Blu-ray, and more is sure to follow. Criterion has shown time and time again that they adore Kurosawa, so there is nothing to be concerned about - especially for huge titles like Throne of Blood, Rashomon, Hidden Fortress, etc. It's just a matter of time.

And do you think they WANTED the rights to Ran revoked? If they were mere months away from the release, the vast majority of the work (if not all) must have already been completed - meaning it was all for naught. Studio Canal ripped Ran, and a ton of other great titles you don't seem particularly concerned about, away from Criterion, and has made few and predominately poor efforts to release them themselves. So blaming this on Criterion is ridiculous.

I like that they kept the Saul Bass art but I think it looks too much like an Eclipse set.

yes, but I'd tend to prefer Carlos Saura's "Cría cuervos"

Isn't Spirit Of The Beehive already alavaible "somewhere" on blu-ray ?
I remember having seen some photos of the BR packaging on this forum but I can't remember where...

an Almodovar Blu-Ray box would have be great : for instance a box set with Atame / (Talk To Her / Hable con ella) / Tacones Lejanos)
I bought a lot of Blu-Ray titles in Spain before amazon.es appeared (dvdgo.es or something like this) the picture quality of Atame is amazing (color are vivid, really amazing picture quality). Too bad that the audio is lossy.

I'm a bit disappointed by the announcement...

Malle it's okay, altough I would have died for a Murmur of The Heart Blu-Ray upgrade.

But where is Truffaut ?
Time is not on my side these days and I'm really impatient to see The Soft Skin in its new restoration copy.

Yes indeed! Beautiful cover. I'm happy to see Criterion releasing 50's and 60's Hollywood titles lately. February makes up for the so-so January lineup. Count me in for everything except Tiny Furniture. I guess Drunken Angel and Stray Dog will be in March.

I disagree. I think it pairs rather well with the 12 Angry Men cover, both are court dramas, both have brightly coloured covers, and both have two awesome, powerhouse actors who were friends and roomies in real life, Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda. It's perfect.

I was wondering the same about Truffaut, I'm surprised they have not released more on Blu ray. Shoot the Piano Player, Jules & Jim, Antoine Doinel series upgrades would be welcome.
