These new rules are worse for disc buyers because so much of what we buy is around that figure. The government know this and that's why they changed the rules. The governemnt's front bench has at least 4 millionaires so they're not too bothered.

How would you know anything about that? Don't be a tit or get all high and mighty. If you don't like "flippant" comments install a ****ing app or something on your phone. Or join Facetube.

Really great news for people who live on the Channel Islands

Still, a Blu-ray at £14.99 + VAT is still better than the extortionate prices they charge in HMV stores, which kinda disproves the bullshit excuse the Government gave for doing this.
VAT went up to 20% back in Jan

Not so much games, currently everything priced £15.00 or more is taxed VAT from the channel islands.

With intellectual arguments/comments like yours it all becomes very clear how bigoted and narrow-minded people really are becoming these days. Don't bother responding as you are just one of a growing number of idiots I have added to my ignore list so I don't have to read your nonsensical posts.

Don't worry Ben, The Driver has demonstrated time and time again that he's an idiot. Also he has to drag irrelevant political issues into his posts all the time.

Just as long as the big man feels justified in his comments, even if he clearly knows nothing about which he is writing I guess that is all that matters.

Nice to know I'm not alone in my thoughts

I think its the hyperbole-laden conspiracy nonsense that puts most people off. It comes across as really aggressive at times.

Default Blu-ray prices to rocket

As you may or may not know just about all of the online retailers (Amazon, Play, HMV, The Hut) operate on the Channel Islands due to there being no added VAT on Blu-rays, DVD's, Games & CD's. This however is all about to change come April 2012. The Government are going to take away this "no VAT" and so the retailers will have to boost their prices to match High Street stores such as HMV, unless of course they find somewhere else they can operate from without being charged VAT.

Dramatic much? This isn't going to be as bad as some people seem to think. We already pay VAT on Amazon products, and HMV.com haven't used Jersey for some time. Unless you're a massive fan of Play.com or the hut group then you have little to worry about. If anything this should see the end of Indigo Starfish, a name whose I dread seeing alongside an amazon listing.

Yeah, we've had this. Nothing will "rocket" in price (except energy costs!). The way things are going, prices will come down if shops actually want to sell anything.

Haha - thanks for rubbing it in, buddy!

Very good point, though. Can't say I'm expecting too much of an effect - e-tailers don't just save on tax, they save on all the high-street overheads too, so they won't exactly have to raise prices to "match High Street stores such as HMV".

That isn't strictly true, whilst HMV don't ship from Jersey, all their online products ship from Guernsey, which is also in the Channel Islands, thus VAT exempt.

Just think I should point out to everybody this has nothing to do with me. I didn't create this information nor have I expressed any opinion on this matter. I was merely the reporter (even if it was late!). I was just letting people know
