Link is still good. For some odd reason the one in my sig died. I replaced it and it's up...

I learnt something today. I'd never heard of this so-called Mumblecore genre.

I'll have to take your word for that. I couldn't get past "Mumblecore is an American independent film movement that arose at the turn of the 21st century".

I'd like to know this as well. B&N threw three 20% coupons at me in the mail. Now I have no choice but to feast. I was thinking The Rules Of The Game, Days Of Heaven and ... or maybe The Battle of Algiers???

That's because the wiki article was written by a fan of the genre. You are obviously not a fan or you would have kept reading .

I think fans of mumblecore films are the same post-college 20-something hipsters who keep writing yahoo articles about how physical media is dead and streaming is the new uber-cool technology that rules. Sell your player, stop wasting money on DVDs or *gasp* blu-rays, get with the hipness of streaming. It's all one big mumblecore conspiracy.

You absolutely should. It's an incredible film with a lot of great action and fight sequences. Really odd that this film is so unnoticed, in my opinion.

Canada Best & Worst Criterion Blu-ray Cover Artwork of 2011

I confined my choices to all new titles or new to Blu with exclusive cover art. Covers simply ported from DVD - regardless how well they were originally done - really belong to a previous year.

Best: Topsy-Turvy (surprised no one else mentioned this; I thought it was both clever and evocative of the film and period).

Runners Up for Best: The Phantom Carriage, Kiss Me Deadly, Paris Texas (I think that one was this year), Senso, and Kuroneko.

Worst: The Makioka Sisters (looks like a Japanese bus tour pamphlet).

Also rans for Worst: Antichrist, Something Wild, Mystery Train, Three Colors, and Carlos.

I will be picking up Dazed and Confused and Che but would like to maybe grab another 3-5 more. I bet there is alot more I want to check out but this is just a start. Prob going to starting Renting again so alot of these might just become Rentals so what are some of the must own films that would could have a 2nd or 3rd+ viewing. I'm trying to avoid buying something that I won't check out again. Since all of these will be Blind Buys.

Yea, I voted. Would have chosen Wages of Fear as best cover but Kuroneko is a strong one...and on the list. I really dislike the cover of Rules of the Game. So disappointing...and for one of the best films in the whole CC.

And another topie: Does anyone know what happens to the Criterion remasters when Criterion's rights to the film lapse? Does the company that reclaims the rights buy the remaster or does it do a new one?

Put another way, is Third Man blu on Lionsgate the same remaster as in the Third Man blu on CC? Since there's a digibook version of Le Samourai coming out in France, if CC releases Le Samourai here, will it be the same remaster?

How does the licensing deal with remasters?

That's the one I picked there's just something about the cover. Island of Lost Souls was my second favorite.

I'm gonna stop reading Blu-ray.com's reviews of Criterion releases. They are ALWAYS giving out atleast 4.5 (more often 5) to the movie, video and audio when it's clearly not worth it. It's very disappointing to see how this site is getting bribed or whatever.

It looks to me from the cover that Criterion didn't much like it
It's not a visually stimulating cover but I do appreciate the concept. Focussing on her face from the perspective of the tiny furniture.

Diabolique is my absolute favourite but SSoS is a close second.

It's not Criterion's fault that they put out amazing films with extremely high video and audio quality. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with a Criterion release that I have picked up.
