OK, try this scenario:

Week 1 / 225000 / 65.00% / 35.00%
Week 2 / 185000 / 74.02% / 25.98%
Week 3 200000 / 76.97% / 23.03%

Week 2 vol. goes down. Week 3 vol. goes up.

HMM report YTD as:

Wk1: 65:35
Wk2: 74:26
Wk3: 76:24

See what I mean? - but you're right that volume wouldn't be up by a lot.

The reason for Planet Earth HD DVD scoring 0.00.

Have the Oprah viewers finally realised they can't play a HD DVD in their washing machines?

Yes, they have already stated that publicly. They will be releasing no more titles on HD DVD.

First, I have to say I just love the math wars that always break out here after the numbers are released. Classic stuff.

Now, as for this:

Good catch!

I'm not sure their motivation for putting that up. I'd assume the usual motivation, to increase sales ("buy 'em while you can!"), but...

I think this could have a devastating impact on HD DVD sales on Amazon. If an HD DVD supporter clicks the link to see if there are any bargains, they are going to be struck at the tons of big-name titles being removed from the format (Matrix, Harry Potter, 300, Blade Runner, Batman Begins, Planet Earth, etc., etc., etc.). If news hasn't reached them yet that HD DVD is a dead format, they'll know it now for sure.

Which is why I keep saying the numbers are going to move fast in a Blu direction (with a small amount of up-and-down movement as is always the case with stats like these). Every day there are more and more people finding out what's going on and vowing to never buy HD DVD again. Those people are moving out of the red stats permanently, so the shifts are going to be permanent.

That's nearly impossible as the marginal gains get increasingly difficult for 2 reasons:

1) You have to win by a greater margin at a higher volume each time the SI numbers moves up. It's easier to change a 50/50 ratio than a 70:30 ratio.

2) The volumes that are getting added are building up an impressive SI total volume. The weekly volume can't possibly escalate fast enough to continually overcome the volume that gets added each prior week.

This may continue for a few weeks but then will slow up unless the remaining 2 studios turn and HD DVD essentially go to sub-5%.

Ok I see - but very little volume gain is possible and only if they really round 76.97 down to 76 and all the decimals were lined up just right.

The official numbers posted at the top of this thread have an incorrect SI number:

Awesome results once again. All top ten High Def seller swere blu-ray. The most impressive statistic is that SI increased another point since last week! Universal and Paramount should be counting the days. All of this while HD DVD still has Warner titles. Just imagine the numbers after May, not even worth discussing.

They have to put it on the stove first in that pot of boiling water.

I can't believe Toshiba is going to waste even more money on a superbowl ad. Guess they have a lot left over since they couldn't buy another Studio.

Once some more bigger releases come out I'm sure the volume will go up a lot though and the YTD and SI numbers will move even faster.
Regardless the volume had to be fairly high compared to the average week in order to move the SI figues yet again after they just moved last week. It might be smaller than last week but it can't be anywhere close to "normal".
