Default Repackaged BD30K

Was reading about this 2500 on AVS forum. Anecdotally, this player is suspected to have the same LFE issues that the Panasonic players have, and it was suggested that it has the same guts inside a different box. This would be an utter disappointment. I look forward to seeing an objective review of this player.

No reviews yet, eh?

That's because it's a huge disappointment. Has anyone been reading the AVS thread? I think I'll just be waiting until Summer for the Sony players to come out. I know then it will be friendly to my receiver. Besides, my BDS1 has been awesome.

It does look like the Denon 2500 is nothing more than a rebadged Panny BD30K. I'm very disappointed in Denon right now, as it seems the 2500 has the same loading times, pretty much the same PQ and AQ, it has forced 24fps and the same LFE issues as the Panny. Also, it has HDMI handshaking issues with the Onkyo 875 and glitches with every movie in the first 20 secs so I read. It looks like I'm going for the Pio or the new BD50 from Panasonic.

The "front end chipset" (Denon's term) is the same in the 2500 as it is in the BD30. As such, many bugs found in the BD30 currently exist in the 2500 as well. The other components of the 2500 are quite different however.

BTW, Jeff Talmadge with Denon has started a thread over at AVS where you can ask specific questions, etc. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=986622 (sorry to link to another forum mods). He's quite knowledgeable, and is working quite hard at the moment at getting a fix out for the various issues inherited in the 2500 from the Panasonic "front end chipset."

Also, he's posted some interesting info on the upcoming 3800 for anyone who's interested. That model is based on a new chipset and shouldn't have the early bugs inherited by the 2500. Also, Denon is already working on second-gen players that will feature SACD and DVD-A playback, as well as Profile 2.0 capabilities, etc.

Let's hope they can bring in one model for $500. I guy can dream, can't he?

That's what I was hoping for, the addition of SACD/DVD-A playback. I guess I'll be waiting for their 2nd-gen player.
