Learned something new today, there is a way for the SEC to get 3 teams into the BCS. If Georgia beats LSU but LSU and Alabama remain the top 2 teams in the BCS rankings then all 3 teams would make BCS games. I always thought the rule that conferences could only have 2 teams make the BCS was concrete.

SEC should get an exception to always have 3-4 teams just as the Big East got one for a different reason altogether.

It would really stink if UCLA pulled off a miracle and beat Oregon in the PAc-12 title game. UCLA would then get a BCS bid going 7-6 after losing by 50 to a USC team that would have been in the conf title game over UCLA if not for probation. Stanford is likely to get a BCS bowl aside from the Pac-12 champ.

We're also stuck with a crappy Big East autmatic bid team which appears to be West Virginia at 8-3.

It could end up with an even worse team than West Virginia. If Cincinnati loses to Connecticut then 7-5 Louisville will win the Big East, or if Cincinnati beats UConn and West Virginia loses at South Florida then 9-3 Cincinnati wins the Big East.

But if you actually watched the game, it wasn't low scoring because of how good the defenses were.

It was low scoring because of how pathetic the offenses were. I can handle a good defensive battle but that game was not it.

Perhaps the offenses were just nervous, or feeling the pressure of the game situation. Perhaps it won't happen again, and the game will be great.

But I won't be watching it, for numerous reasons, not the least of which is it takes the BCS "national championship" game to a whole new level of idiocy, allowing a team's NC chances to get _better_ when they lose just shows how much of a farce the system is.

Worst Kept Secret in College Football Official. Urban Meyer to be introduced at OSU tonight. Article from MSNBC.com

Quote:
Despite his agent being less-than-pleased with how the “official” news surfaced, all signs continue to point to Urban Meyer being named Ohio State’s new coach in short order. Very short order, as a matter of fact.

Yet another data point surfaced late Monday morning, with Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch and the Big Ten Network reporting that OSU will hold a press conference at 5:15 p.m. ET, presumably to introduce the worst-kept secret in college football.

The school subsequently issued a release confirming the 5:15 press conference, but would only state that it will be to “announce the selection of its head football coach”. We’re going to go ahead and assume that announcement will contain the words “Urban” and Meyer”.

The BTN has already announced it will televise the event.

Meyer’s camp and OSU officials spent the Thanksgiving weekend ironing out the details on a contract that’s expected to make Meyer the highest-paid coach in college football. The current coaching staff and players either have been informed by athletic department officials or will be informed at some point before the presser.
Current Coaching Staff being informed today as well

Quote:
UPDATED 8:57 a.m. ET: OSU athletic director — for now — Gene Smith will conduct a previously unscheduled meeting with the current coaching staff later this morning to inform them of the development, the Columbus Dispatch is reporting. The current scuttlebutt is that a meeting with the players will take place as well today, likely early this afternoon. Those two meetings are expected to take place before an official release announcing Meyer’s hiring is issued by the school.

Maybe just respect knowing how costly a turn-over could be

The other BCS conferences wouldn't agree to it, and then we'd be back to the OJUS (old jumbled up system) of bowls.

I would have an orgasm if that were to occur. Seriously, that would knock the Zeros completely out of the BCS bowls, and then fUCLA would assuredly lose badly to either Bucky or Sparty. That would be PERFECT!

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel has been informed that he will not return next season but will coach the team in the Pac-12 title game, per ESPN's Joe Schad.

How big of a coach is UCLA expected to go after? I'm not sure what kind of money they have to offer, but that is a once proud program in shambles right now.

LOL! UCLA is a 31 point underdog to Oregon in the Big-12 title game. So sad USC didn't qualify.

Im a big UCLA fan so its glad to hear Rick is gone but the truth is who are they going to go after? This is a state school with a broke state! The only reason Rick has survived is cause they didnt want be on the hook for his 1 million salary. We will see what happens, rumors are alot of transfers are going to go down

You could always try to lure Chris Petersen away from Boise State, but that would be highly unlikely. ESPN was saying over the weekend that Steve Sarkisian was a remote possibility. He's done a decent job at Washington.

The LA Daily News says UCLA is prepared to make a large financial commitment to football and that Chris Petersen and Houston's Kevin Sumlin are their top targets.

Sorry, but UCLA football coach hasn't been a top-tier job in a very long time. Chris Peterson has turned down better jobs than that one in the past I believe.
