Hello

Does anyone know of television series currently available on Blu-ray; or coming soon?

Is this the proper place to inquire regarding this topic?

Thank You

Some studio was also talking about The Weeds television show. But considering I am overseas currently, I have never heard of it or seen it.

How about Scrubs for BD?

Check the apocalist, has also Dune TV miniseries (and I think Ultimate Avengers is TV too) (they also show up on trailers on the Young Guns BD), etc. Lost was announced by BVWHE in Spain for BD release this year too. (look specially at post 17)

I'm also looking forward to television shows coming to BD. They are still the one thing I pick up without hesitation on dvd as I know it will probably be awhile before they start coming out often on BD.

Sadly, Scrubs continues to be in 4:3. I had hoped for this last season they might have made the switch.

I'm waiting for Family Guy to make the switch. That'd be sweet!

Weeds is a Showtime show and indeed has been announced. Not sure if it's been dated or not thought

I am hoping the HBO series ROME makes it to Blu-ray. I currently enjoy watching this series in 1080i/THX 5.1 (DirecTV) each week and it looks/sounds amazing. A proper Blu-ray treatment would put this series over the top.

Sinner, most TV series were/are shot on film, usually 35mm sometimes 16mm.

Some TV series were shot on film and edited on videotape (so the "master" that exists is 486/576i)

Some TV shows are shot live on videotape (486i for NTSC countries, 576i for PAL/Secam countries, and more recently for the HDTV era, in 1080i)

Which is which, having so many TV stuff created would be a long list.

If you know what to look for, watching the shows you can almost always tell if it was shot "live" onto videotape, or film.

Disneyland: film
Star Trek the original show: film
Charlie's Angels: film
Saturday Night Live: videotape
Star Trek: The Next Generation: film edited on videotape (look at the SFX, the spaceship shots, they look more "live")
classic Doctor Who: PAL videotape but exteriors shot on film edited in.
Buffy first two seasons: 16mm edited on videotape
Buffy last seasons: Super-35 edited in HDTV I believe
Johnny Carson: videotape
recent Leno, Conan: HDTV
etc etc

Yes, I would buy that in a heartbeat. I also would love to see The Unit on BD. Great show.

Man, I would love to see Miami Vice on Blu-Ray but I know it caught in the Universal debacle.

I really want Rome. I'll take several HBO series actually. But Rome is high since I've been watching it in HD since it started. It doesn't make sense to buy the DVD release. I'm hoping that we'll hear something when the show gets closer to finishing its second and final season.

Deci, thanks for the input... is it fair to assume that sitcoms shot in the 90's were done on videotape? Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier, etc.... ?

For all of the money they spend on making that series it is good to see that the quality is good and hopefully transfers nicley onto the blu-ray medium.
