Well I hope it is a corporate decision and not just one store. But hey, any news is good news

Clearance tag on the current generation players is a really bad sign for HD-DVD's future... not that it comes as a suprise to anyone.

I wonder if this'll get mentioned in the HD DVD PG's Super Bowl advertisement or in Ken G's next interview.

Wow... some of these people posting replies on that thread are idiots. Like the guy who said, "I'm going to go buy a back-up player." I hope by "player" he means "over-priced paperweight," and by "buy" he means "waste my money on technology that obviously doesn't have a prayer."

It shows you how delusional all those fan boys still are too. The third post down..."It must be making room for all the new 4th gen players!!" hahaha.

I don't think if someone personally wants to take advantage of the prices to buy an additional HD DVD player is an idiot.

My XA2 is an excellent upscaling DVD player and it plays my DVDs, CDs & HD DVDs very well, I also like my PS3 which is right now probably the best all around Blu-Ray player available.

I love high definition movies and with both formats I can see any one available.

I don't need one but if I did feel the need, I wouldn't mind owning a second HD DVD player for that price, although to be honest I probably will be looking more at the Panasonic BD50 1.1 and 2.0 spec player that is coming out this summer, if it is as good as I hope then the PS3 will probably go into the office to use on my LCD for gaming.

"But the bad news is, with no 4th-Gen players in sight to replace these, it looks like Circuit City may be giving up on HD DVD players."

If they have them on clearance, they have no intention of replacing the stock. If this trend continues industry-wide, Paramount and Universal will have no choice but to concede defeat. They can't sell discs if no one will sell the players.

On Circuitcity.com there is no mention of any clearance for the HD DVD players. This may be a local occurrence.

Even if it is not a corporate decision, each store and retailer that cuts HD-DVD will make it harder and harder for the format to show any kind of sales. It's a slow bleed at this point, but HD-DVD is dying. Only Toshiba, Paramount and Universal refuse to see the inevitable.

Indeed, let's get some more observations at folks local CC's before we reach any conclusions.

Toshiba bribed their way into CC, they didnt; carry them before they offered them a ludicrous pricing structure just to try to support HD DVD

This makes Universal and Paramount look dumber and dumber every day. They can't be very happy about a 15% market share and clearanced-out players.

Oh well, if they don't want my money, they're not going to get it.
