Let's all be real Alabama is a great team but no matter how much the world think bama should play for the title they don't deserve it

DezBryant Dez Bryant
2 team in their conference over a team who won their conference? H no I could understand the argument if we all where in the same conference

DezBryant Dez Bryant
I never seen a team play for the national championship who didn't win their conference..

DezBryant Dez Bryant
Just because the sec conference is strong don't give the right for bama to jump the big 12 champs..

Sugar Bowl - Michigan vs. TCU(?)
Rose Bowl - Wisconsin vs. Oregon

The biggest question mark is who takes the spot Houston would have received had they not lost today. Sounds like the most likely team is TCU.

Michigan has to get into the top 14 to get picked as an at-large (they are 16 & they didn't play today). They might (probably will) be able to get into the top 14.

TCU has to get to # 16 (they are at 18 & the getting to #16 rule is for conference champs).

I am a Kansas State fan, they are #11 (they will go past OU, not sure how far Houston & VTech falls), if both Michigan & TCU would some how get in over K-State that would be bullshit. The big 12 is rate the strongest conference by the computers & they deserve 2 teams in BCS games (K-State's SOS is also in the top 10). I think that it will be K-State vs Michigan in the Sugar Bowl (unless Okie St somehow gets in over Alabama then Bama gets the Sugar & K-State moves to the Fiesta).

You know how big politics plays into BCS selections. Michigan would almost certainly get picked over K-State, even if they may not be more deserving. Schools like Michigan and Notre Dame will always get picked over schools like K-State. I suppose it may really come down to selecting K-State or TCU, and that's a battle K-State may win.

Yes I know all about that & the "K-State rule". Either way it has been a great year for K-State & I would be happy with a Cotton Bowl but a BCS bowl looks possible. The one thing that K-State has going for it is that they travel well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCS_controversies
Quote:
The first year of the BCS ended in controversy when one-loss Kansas State finished third in the final BCS standings but was passed over for participation in BCS bowl games in favor of Ohio State (ranked 4th) and two-loss Florida (8th). Instead, the Wildcats played in the far less prestigious Alamo Bowl against Purdue. The following season, the BCS adopted the "Kansas State Rule," which provides that the 3rd ranked team (or 4th ranked team if the 3rd ranked team has already qualified as a conference champion) in the final BCS standings is assured an invitation to a BCS bowl game. The rule was first utilized in 2002–03, giving an automatic berth to USC. The rule has been used six times in all, with Texas earning automatic bids in 2004–05 and 2008–09, Ohio State earning an automatic bid in 2005–06, Michigan receiving an automatic bid in 2006–07, and Stanford receiving an automatic bid in 2010–11.

The following season, Kansas State finished 6th in the BCS standings but again received no invitation, this time being passed over in favor of Michigan (ranked 8th). Kansas State's predicament (as well as that of undefeated Tulane who was denied a BCS bid because they played in Conference USA) inaugurated the long-standing media controversies regarding the system.

After Oklahoma State's impressive win last night, I don't understand how anyone can honestly believe this current system works for creating a national champion. Most years, there are more than two teams that deserve a crack at winning it all. I hope when the human voters pick Alabama over Oklahoma State, it causes a shitstorm and the media runs with it. We need a playoff system!

Oh my Dawgs!! Went out and did something no other team has done since 2002, then came back from halftime and laid an egg. Wish they'd come see me in Orlando but my bowl committee buddies tell me they do not want Georgia again right now.

What I don't like about the BCS, more than anything, is that history has as much to do with rankings as today does.

The computers overwhelmingly have the Big 12 as a tougher conference this year. Even the "bad" loss to Iowa State, the computers have Iowa State as a top 30 team. But humans don't think that way, because the SEC has been so dominant for so long.

LSU and Alabama are clearly great teams overwhelmed with NFL talent. But even above that they are getting ridiculous amounts of credit for beating up the SEC, when the SEC has had a down year.

A down year for the SEC still means they are really damn good, but where's the indication that Alabama should get a huge boost from the SEC this year?

Alabama beat Penn State, a team that even at 8-1 people said weren't as good as their record, and who promptly got destroyed by the only two ranked conference teams they faced, Nebraska and Wisconsin. In fairness to Penn State these losses were after the Paterno thing, so PState might have fared better.
Georgia lost to Boise State.
Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Tennessee didn't play anyone of note.

If ANY other conference had an Out of conference schedule like the SEC did that's all we'd hear about all year, how the SEC is clearly superior because of how weak <insert other conference here>'s schedule is.

It's such a double standard.

I was at the Northern Iowa-Wofford FCS second round playoff game yesterday and there was one of the strangest plays I've ever seen.

Northern Iowa won 28-21 and will play Montana Friday night.

I think that the BCS Championship game should be between OSU and LSU. I know it appears that it will be LSU and BAMA, which would be a terrible idea. I found this on the ESPN.COM which makes a good argument that Bama should not play for the title. Looking at this actually makes the highly ranked BAMA seem way over ranked.

lol and look how those teams finished Baylor's kinda a joke with that loss to A&M who lost to Arkansas, K State = lol, I really hope La Layfayette, and Tulsa are reasons one should get into the National Championship game because that means Maryland should have a chance one day.

It should be about the win vs. a top10 team by 35. Other than that they've shown nothing that says they could hang with LSU (on paper that is, game time who knows they could go whip LSU).

If hanging with LSU is your requirement then just give LSU the championship now and don't play the game, because LSU is effectively playing a home game, and I don't think even Alabama can hang with LSU there.

lol they out played them once already (if you watched the first game) why would you assume they couldn't again. Oh and Bama's the only team this year to come within 7 points of beating them. Everyone else (beyond Miss St, who lost by 13) is over 2 scores. Not that it matters since they won't get in lmao, not sure why we're even talking about it, you'll get your different team (as you should after the 35 point win), so be happy.

Final Coaches poll is out. Here it is with points.

1. LSU - 1475
2. Alabama - 1399
3. Oklahoma St. - 1367
4. Stanford - 1286
5. Oregon - 1232

Oklahoma St. closed the gap on Alabama by a good deal. The other poll they use is the Harris poll which apparently isn't out yet. I'm guessing OK St. took the lead over Alabama in thee computer polls, but probably not enough to take the #1 BCS spot.

which would be a travesty and would make me think their's more going on then just numbers and that someones playing with it. No way you should win by 35 and not move up.

Here's ESPN's final bowl projections.

National Championship - Alabama vs. LSU
Orange Bowl - West Virginia vs. Clemson
Sugar Bowl - Michigan vs. TCU or Boise St. (seems to be disagreement about this one)
Rose Bowl - Wisconsin vs. Oregon
Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma St. vs. Stanford

Other interesting matchups:

Cotton Bowl - Arkansas vs. Kansas St.
Capital One Bowl - South Carolina vs. Nebraska
Gator Bowl - Florida vs. Ohio St. (The Urban Meyer Bowl)
Armed Forces Bowl - Houston vs. BYU (Poor Houston sure fell, didn't they?)
Champs Sports Bowl - FSU vs. Notre Dame

Here we go. Someone did the math and just using the Coaches poll and computer polls here is the BCS standings.

http://www.teamspeedkills.com/2011/1...oklahoma-state

1. LSU 1.000
2. Alabama .939
3. Oklahoma St. .938

The final component is the Harris poll which isn't out yet. Unless Oklahoma St. does what they didn't do in the Coaches poll and jump into #2 in that poll it's going to be Alabama in the title game by a razor thin margin.

Probably won't be watching the National Championship game with another field goal exhibition game between Bama & LSU. It is true when someone said Bama's best win was their OT loss to LSU at home. No doubt that the Iowa St 2OT loss was bad, but Okie St. has a better resume.

Yeah saw that ESPN has K-State in the Cotton & Yahoo has K-State in the Sugar. It will be close but the Computers love K-State (they were at #5 last week). Don't know how a 1/2 loss Mountain West team would get in over a Big 12 but you never know.
