For the moment, the ADP-390s will keep me in the Paradigm family. Those will likely be replaced in the future as well. Updated HT pics to come once the new speakers arrive.
It was your setup that originally inspired me to go with the Monitor 9's and the CC-390...Thanks...

Paradigm makes great speakers. I was extremely close to upgrading to a full Studio setup but chose to go a different path. Something a little less...conventional?

Love your setup by the way

Hey Guys, quick question. How do you know if your speakers are blown? I have a Studio 590 center, and sometimes the highs seem harsh. Not all the time though which is weird. Could something be wrong with the speaker?

Thanks!

At what volumes are you hearing the harshness? If you have been doing a lot of high volume listening with a small amp you may have fried the tweeter. Although that was my biggest complaint of the Studio's is the tweeter which I also found sometimes bright and harsh when pushing them. I've had a couple of blown tweeters before and they just quit making any sound at all. Try using another speaker with the same content that you hear the harshness on, that may give you a clue if there's something wrong.

yes, there could be something wrong with the speaker. i recommend if you can easily access the back of your receiver or amp (which ever is the case) swap the center channel with either the left or right and see if it still does the same thing. if it does then swap them back to their proper terminals on the receiver or amp. then go to the speaker side and swap them again, same two speakers. if it (the center) still does it after swapping them at the source and then at the speaker it's the speaker itself and not the source (receiver/amp) or the cable. do make sure everything is at the volume level that you usually listen to when you hear the highs & harshness.

let us know how it works out.

Never thought of doing that actually. Thanks. I will give it a try and get back here, which will most likely be in a few days.

I have a quick question and was needing opinions from my fellow Paradigm owners. I have the CC-290 v6 center channel. I recentely got into vinyl and I have Monitor 5's ver. 3 as my fronts. Would I hear a big differnce if I go with some Monitor 7's? Or should I save up and get 9"s instead? I would be doing 2 channel when I move up to towers. I have the Onkyo 608 as the reciever.

Your best bet is to listen to them and decide for yourself.

That being said, you may want to also consider Studio 20's. The Studio models have an improved driver over the Monitors and you'll really notice the difference.

if your going to listen to a lot of 2 channel stereo save up and buy the better speakers you might even consider the studio 20s, i love my digms but dont limit yourself to just them demo as many different brands as you can

Hey Aces, sorry i never saw your post. I am using an Outlaw 200 WPC amp. So i know that the amp has plenty of power for the speaker. I never really cranked it. At least i dont think so. The loudest i put it on was -5 i belive. But i notice that the setup seems quietter or not as loud. I dont really know how to explain it.

With my upstairs syste, (yamaha receiver no amp), i cant get it to -25 or -20 without it being rediculously loud. But with the Denon reciever and Outlaw amp hooked up to the Studios, it doesnt seem loud. Seems like i have to crank it to get it loud. Hence the -5. I dont know if it is the Denon's settings or what.

thx for the feedback guys. I am for now stuck with the monitor line, just got my 290 not that long ago. But I have always wanted 20's. One of these days. Prolly will go with the 7's if I can get them cheap enough.

Hey folks! I currently have the following 3.1 setup:

Center: Polk Audio CS1
Fronts: Paradigm Studio 20 v.2 bookshelfs (on stands)
Sub: Velodyne DPS-10.

99.8% of the time I'm watching blu-ray movies. Very rare do I listen to just music. I am looking to replace my center channel with the Paradigm CC-190 v.6. Would those timber-match the Studio 20 v.2's just fine?

The rest of my 3.1 setup is in my signature. Thanks a bunch!

Haha great! I am eagerly awaiting. I'm just fully excited that I finally got wife approval. My apologies again for posting in the other general HT thread, as you can see I do not post here quite often.

if you are going to doing more 2-ch then movies then get the best 2-ch speakers you can, and don't worry about the exact timber with the center channel, itll be close enough you probably won't notice anyways.

Hey goombatommy,
Thanks for commenting on my gallery.

Though I haven't heard the CC-190 center channel nor the studio 20 v2's "IMHO"I don't think they'd match up to well for the simple fact that they're two different models and with the CC-190 being more current with new'r components, it may not match up to well with your Studio's. If possible try and stick with something more in the lines of the studio's, I think going with a v2 or v3 center would work out best. Unless you plan to upgrade in the near future, then getting the CC-190 v6 would be a good move...

Good luck...B...

Hey no problem man. I saw your theater setup and it was jaw dropping and awe-inspiring to look at! Major kudos to that!

That's the thing about the CC-190, some sites I come across says it matches the Monitor series, others say the Studio series. I've gotten in touch with Paradigm directly and they said the CC-190 would work fine with my Studio 20s v.2, however me being as particular as I am would like to get some first-hand, user opinions and ideas. Just stinks I live in the middle of nowhere so I cannot go and demo any of this.
