If any of you guys are on O2, you can get £10 back in vouchers if you but the SW box set in-store from HMV, thanks to the O2 moments app.

It's not that ridiculous (or funny) a point, even if Joliefan doesn't usually write the most coherent or sensible posts - £48 for a two-month old release of 6 (big) films is a good price. That's £8 each and that's before you consider the three discs of extras included (regardless of whether you rate the extras or not). Jurassic Park was released a few weeks later and is £27 for three films (and, as much as I love them, let's face it only the first film is a classic whereas Star Wars has the first three). Don't get me wrong, I think it will drop to £30 at some point but £48 isn't a bad price at all. (£42 is obviously better)

And Blu-ray Winstone - all of those boxsets have been out for longer, are for smaller releases and are all different beasts - most contain sequels that people wouldn't normally buy so the cheap price helps shift the entire collection. (True, most people would dismiss the prequels but there's a lot of people out there who want them). The exceptions are the Apes boxset (which is just bundling the new film with a boxset that's been £15 for a while now) and the Harry Potter boxset (which again is bundling now-cheap previous releases with the new release and benefits from price wars for outlets competing against each other) We get it, you don't like this release but all of your posts now reek of bias and making negative points for the sake of it.

We can but it's much better when the discussion is a reasonable one with people actually having something to say or contribute - something to add to the discussion. As I say all of your posts just seem like negative bias just for the sake of it. Like you're ready to shoot down anything positive being said about something you've decided you don't like. You get it in every thread for big releases, people wanting to point out why it's rubbish to stand out. Some people decide on a point of view and just like repeating it as loudly and as often as possible and it leaves it not as a discussion but a series of rants, snarky comments and cute smilies.

EDIT - this goes both ways of course. Fanboys can do the same thing (and I'm not a Star Wars one in case you're wondering - I don't have the set yet) and, even though I stuck up for the guy, Joilefan's posts can be just as tiresome.

Shit, apart from the smilies I'm screwed.

As for the Star Wars boxset as soon as the price was announced I kind of new how much I wanted to pay for it straight away. Then I deducted £5 for every change to the OT.... So I've got a long wait but I will be very excited when I get the set. I'm even looking forward to the new framing of The Phantom Menace, as spot the new characters around the edge of the frame will keep me distracted....

Fair play. I am normally very positive of Blu releases. See my other threads. I am just a bit over passionate about this set, I guess because I feel it was a big letdown. We’re talking maybe the most famous, popular set of films for many generations.

But I have always said it is only how I think and feel about the set. It seems many agree with certain points, not including extras, no theatrical versions included, no option to have bought an all singing all dancing box set ,that set it apart from a standard release, the PQ etc.

I like a good debate. I normally only reply to where people have posted accusing me of this and that. I’m just as anyone – somewhere in-between slightly amused and bored of the posts.

But if someone harps on about this being brilliant and we’ve reached the top of what we should expect for these movies... I’ll probably post a reply

All good points (and thanks for a curteous reply). And you're within your right to see this box as a disappointment in some ways - it would have been great to see all the old extras ported across and it's a shame that there's not yet been a definitive edition boxset of the saga that rounds everything up into one place. I'd say complaining about the lack of the theatrical versions is a moot point thouch because, come on - who really expected that after past experiences..?

As for the PQ, am I right in thinking you saw it on a TV in HMV? Because that's the area where you might have to let the people who own the set 'harp on' if they want - it's nice to think opinions are all equal but in that area I think having hands-on experience with the set makes their opinions at least hold a bit more weight. No offence intended.

No thats cool, not offended. Should be curteous, I've only moaned on about the set, never personal digs.

Yeah totally right, saw in HMV each of the OT at various points for a couple of weeks (I work nearby and wait for a train, so became an HMV stalker)

I wasn't impressed, as I've said, but I had seen many other Blu 'on display' and never noticed a lack of PQ before.

I originally came on here to question how good it really is after what I saw. My intention was to maybe buy this, but IMO the clarity on upscaled player is really really great. I couldnt see the jump from DVD to Blu, as I saw when I chopped in my VHS to DVD.

My mate at work (the apparent prat) has a good set up is our IT manager (not relevent, but he is not 17 yr old kid who doesn't know stuff etc). He is not naturally grumpy to moan about something. He said stick to the DVDs it isn't worth the upgrade for the £70 or even half that as it'll come down in price.

But I'm sure there are plenty of Blus, I think are awesome and others think are naff or not enough effort put into the release etc. My main gripe is that is seems to me just another box set, nothing special. Knowing what other less pinacle films had for their Blu release, I felt a little let down. I'm sure I'll be jumped on wanting a tin or whatever - No I just for £70 and being STAR WARS would have expected something worth the years of wait.

I'll be the same if Indiana Jones is released and is a similar dull offering to Bourne Trilogy for example rather than a Jurrasic Park, where everyone could chose standard (I bought this not the tin with all the goodies), Tin or big F'off collectors set. Some real care and effort put in for fans and collectors..... The End

I own the set and have seen all six films the PQ for the PT is outstanding and the OT looks better then ever. The extres are not very good compared to the Alien antholgy , Lord of the rings.

And Amazon.co.uk is out of stock, no deliveries before Christmas...

That's a bummer for their sales!

Since many online stores are running out of stock, I was wondering if someone knows where I can buy this box set the cheapest in London. I'm going to London Wednesday (I'm from Belgium), I still need some for Christmas presents.

£48 is extremely expensive for this set, considering the fact that it could have been much better, and the inevitability of another set down the road. This is what I call "greedy shooting first..."
£30 would be much more reasonable.

I think Lucasfilm will be giving me cashback....

The set was £70 in Tesco's today, I think it was £50 in ASDA the other day but I may have imagined that price tag.

48 pound for 6 films (£8 per film) and 3 bonus discs isn't that much. And another set in the future.. what kind of set do you expect? All the rereleases on DVD were just repackaging and only the LE dvd's were actually any different in terms of content.
