I believe the bullying scenes were pretty brutal. I mean, I don't remember getting into such fights at that age.

The movie needs to be 20 minutes shorter or so.

WARNING RANT:

This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. First, it's basically telling young children bullying and fighting is ok when most schools are trying to put a stop over it. Second, a love story between two 12 year olds? Seriously? They both needed to be a little over but that's what happens when Will Smith cares more about Jaden's career than his own when Jaden can't act one ioda now compared to his dad. Finally, such as A-B-C storyline...who couldn't tell what was going to happen at the end? I could see it from a mile away. Also, not enough Jackie Chan fighting except when he beat up the kids...what adult beats up kids. Poor Jackie lowering himself to "THe Spy Next Door" and now this. Yuck. Hopefully it gets nominated for a Razzie.

I'm probably going to get alot of hate for this, but I actually prefer this to the 80's original. I found the locations where better, the fighting was more brutal and more fast paced and cool and Jackie Chan was better as a teacher. I will say that I prefered Daniel as a character, as Dre was abit scrawny, but other than that, I thought the remake was better.

The joy of blind buying! It's where one can buy a Blu-ray for $19-$25 knowing it doesn't fall in his taste range and can then have the chance to rant how horrible the movie was on Internet forums

My preference is the original version. But the 2010 version is also very good, IMHO. I own both on Blu and I'll watch both of them multiple times in the future.

I was pleasantly surprised with this. I too enjoyed this more than the original. My only gripe is that I wished the alternate ending was used as the official ending.

I prefer the current ending. The alternate does not show how an adult would behave, not a good example to kids.

I've been watching this movie almost every other weeks. I think I love this version more than the original.

I'm glad they included the alternate ending as a deleted scene so I could see it, but I agree with you that using the current ending was the right choice.

I just got this movie on trade and watched it yesterday. Was ok, but the fight scenes got me dizzy. Seems to be the new trend now that when people are fighting to swing the camera wildly in every direction to try and induce vertigo in some of us, but honestly, I thought it killed the movie. Who in Hollywood started this trend anyway? I get it, people are fighting, but moving the camera left, right, up, down, round and round violently is just plain foolish and dumb. It looked stupid and mindless and makes me wonder if people have become insanely inept at film making. Rant over Other than that, movie was ok because the locations were very interesting to me.

Shaky cam? Michael Bay comes to mind, but his earlier movies the camera moved a lot but it was smooth not really shaky. Maybe it was inspired by the found-footage genre? Paul Greengrass also used it extensively in the Bourne movies.

It was used very well by Steven Spielberg in Saving Private Ryan in 1997.

The kids attacked him, and he didn't beat them up he directed there hits at each other. In essence he let them beat themselves up. As he said "When fighting angry blind man, best to get of the way." Love that line. I really thought this film was good. It is not perfect, but it is filmed and acted with a passion that is undeniable IMO. The scene with Jackie and Jaden training in front of the car headlights at night is just a beautiful emotional powerhouse of a scene. In short, I loved this Karate Kid, and no I have not really seen the original, except maybe on TV when I was young enough to not remember much of anything about it.

I tried to watch this once but couldn't get all the way through it, I may just be too attached to the original though. Also think it's a bit much how young the characters are and yes also a romance between two 12 year olds. May try it again down the line, I do like Jackie Chan quite a bit.

I think the romance is plausible at least. And it turns out to be rather sweet towards the end. And as for the young bullies? I know from experience that Middle Schoolers can be just as vicious as portrayed. It's a dang good thing the ones I dealt with didn't have Kung Fu skills. I'm sorry to say, but that is all too possible in today's world.

One of the reasons I did not purchase Bourne 2 and 3. Maybe I'm just getting old and my eyeballs can't follow that type of shaking anymore LOL....but it looks so lowly that I can't imagine why some directors have adopted this style.

Nothing. I can't believe that's even a complaint. One can get a crush on a girl at a younger age than they were even.

Also, I agree with you about the ending. It is predictable, but it was handled very well and nobody should have expected anything different.
