Hello everyone I am sending the following emails to the Circuit City, Best Buy, Frys Electronics and Walmart customer service centers. Im not going to be so bold and request that they drop HD-DVD, but I am requesting what I feel is much more reasonable and will ultimately have the same effect:
I think that it would help [store name] customers by placing a note in the HD-DVD section of your stores informing them that Warner Brothers will no longer be supporting HD-DVD after May. Due to Toshiba's new pricing scheme many customers are going to make the mistake of buying an HD-DVD player thinking that it has full studio support. I think [store name] should make every effort to make sure customers understand these flaws in HD-DVD. I feel inclined to make this request so that customers will feel confident in their purchases. It won't happen. If they posted that they'd lose sales on that product. They want to get the most money out of the product they are selling.
It's like you trying to sell a product that hasn't quite become obselete and someone e-mailing you saying put up a sign saying this product will be no more in 3 months, you think it would sell? Just my 2 cents. ![]() |

I know this. I don't think larger retail companies are going to do it though.

While I agree with the concept, I don't think the stores are likely to post anything about the Warner announcement. They may post something to let customer's know that the store is dropping HD DVDs in store (when that happens)... but that's it. It seems that all the big retailers are moving toward clearancing the players they have (Toshiba was essentially nice enough to do that for them price-wise) and don't plan to reorder players once the stores and warehouses are empty. Putting signs in the software section would just lead to HD DVD fans destroying them anyway. Plus, until the discs go away, the store wants to get whatever sales they can from them.
It would be nice if stores cared that much about their customers, though. But then they would have never carried a format supported by nearly no one in either the hardware or movie industry to begin with. |

Sorry, but this is like a petition. It is not going to have any impact. Yes, good intentions here, but let the corporate decision makers do their job and figure this out. It is only a matter of time.
Good idea, just no impact will be made, just the cold hard facts. |

There is nothing wrong with trying to be constructive and help the cause of Blu-ray. If you could get several hundred thousand people to do this, then it may have some impact. But that would be a monumental task.
IMO, the most effective way for an individual to help the Blu cause is to use of “Word of mouth”. Tell anyone that has an interest about the benefits of Blu. This in turn may lead to more sales. And sales (and profits) is the ONE thing the suits understand. |

If you want to support one of the formats, keep buying movies. That's all the studios look for (and rightly so, they are trying to feed their families as well).

Don't forget THEY want to sell the DUD units they have.
So they are centainly not going to screw themselves. Although a little prodding never hurt. |

I agree with with the others, they want to dump what stock they have, I am sure they cannot return the players thay have to Toshiba.
I am curious is it possable to find out what the production rate is on new HD-DVD players or did it just stop? |

What about Warner putting a sticky on all the HD-DVDs they sell stating they are stopping production of HD-DVD.
