This film needs a new master and new restorations until this is done they won't be getting a penny of my money. I find it hard to believe that my upscaled DVD won't look better than this.

Well looking (assuming it's a port) at the reviews @ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Plane.../27694/#Review (harsh? I don't know as I don't own it yet) and http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/5721/pta.html -I'll make my own mind up as usual. Add to this the film is very grainy anyway and the DVDs are shit.

Yes, I'm a realist and I have dropped my expectations for Blu-ray. Really, at the end of the day Criterion ain't going to be releasing this and Paramount don't give a ****. There is nothing people can do expect don't buy it, complain and whinge or wait for the price to drop. I'll go with the latter.

It's all the money at £5.99 but it's taking its time getting there.

Picked this up for pence around Christmas to replace my wearing out DVD copy...personally I would say its a marginal improvement over the DVD version so if you dont own it already this is worth picking up...if you have the DVD though unless its almost free I wouldnt bother...Im still really miffed they dont have any extras at all...

No extras? The blu or the DVD? The blu has plenty of extras, including the 'Voice of a Generation' and 'Legacy' docs, both of which are a must.

Yeah exactly, some great extras. I thought the PQ was good too.

As this my favorite movie of all time I've bought way too much versions (2 VHS, 3 DVDs and finally on Blu) and although not perfect the BD-pq is by far the best. I also second the praise for the bonus features... although they were already on the US-SE-DVD

I disagree I love this movie and love having it on blu ray, mediocre transfer or not. It's got some good extras and the movie is five stars. I didn't own the DVD so this was a no brainer.

Well, as it's the only choice on Blu-ray right now, what's the option? Yes it's old and has DNR, but it's still the best looking version out there, with some good extras, and it's cheap. I've enjoyed many viewings of it over the past few years, why would I want to watch an even worse looking DVD version instead?

As Above I'd pay the asking price just for the extras but seeing as I didn't own the movie on DVD it was a no brainer. Especially as the UK DVD has no extras. What's the alternative, not own the movie at all??

As you would put it I couldn't help but go fit it lol.

I meant go buy it, not sure how that got there. The alternative would be to boycott the release by not buying it until it gets the treatment it deserves but as always no one is prepared to do that.

Yes, but by doing that, I would have been stuck watching a crappy DVD version for years, instead of being able to enjoy a flawed, but far better presentation. For me, life's way too short for things like that, when the disc only costs a few quid. And if a better version comes along, I'll grab it ASAP.

Even if a bunch of us boycotted it, the average guy on the street would still buy it anyway, and we would have made a miniscule difference in sales. If Paramount wouldn't even remaster the Star Trek films (apart from Khan) for their 50th Anniversary last year, it's a pretty good bet we'll be waiting quite a long time for a remaster of this.

Then Paramount would stop releasing catalogue titles all together. However sadly I think that is what they have done. I can't remember the last catalogue title that they did release here.
