It is, they aren't even denying anymore, in fact they kinda embrace it (cf the lettering in the trailer).

It just won't be centered on the Alien specie that we had been following until now

One thing that puzzles me is that despite being apparently a prequel (the disc Jokey presence would tend toward that), the tech level of the "Humans" shown is far higher than that of the first Alien movie it seems (Holographic Interface, etc.).

Is it possible that the humanoids shown (that look like humans) would not be actual humans? Now ... that wouldn't quite fit with the Weyland - Yutani corp logos that have filtered .. so I'm kinda confused...

Don't see where it would fit otherwise ... Between Alien 3 and 4, making it a sequel? Alternate Universe?

The team in Alien were miners. So they didn't have the most advanced stuff. Also it was made in 1979...

happens all the time, prequels made years after the fact with higher tech in them than the original . look at star wars. Star Trek 2009 etc.

The part with the solar system/holographic interface looks like it may be on that alien ship. This is also a big budget science team instead of a mining/recovery team.

My theory is that it's either aboard the alien ship or part of a map found on earth used to find the Space Jockey aliens.
