I just finished watching the 1st episode of Series 2... and what a cracker of an episode! Moffat knocks it out of the park here. Can't (and wont) discuss it for fear of spoilers. Best hour and a half of television I've watched since... well last years Sherlock.

I will say only having 3 episodes per season is just criminal.

The main actor isn't very nice to look at so it's put me off watching it.

Wow...Really? That's really why you're putting off watching it? Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the finest working actors right now, and is just incredible in everything he's in. It shouldn't matter what he looks like as long as his performance is good. You should really reconsider.

Bad news is it's 1080/50i (just like UK's release of Season 1) so it won't play on most US players/TV's

Looks like I'll have to wait

Airs in US on PBS in May 2012

Of course it plays fine for you with your Region Free Oppo.

Ripley meant that the series is PAL format (50i) and thus a standard US Region A Player will not play the disc as US/A Players are NTSC format.

Any Oppo will play the disc as they have built in PAL -> NTSC Converters.

Just watched A Scandal in Belgravia on BBC Canada...

Wow.

I love how they dealt with the Sherlock/Moriarty cliffhanger from last season. A very intense 90 minutes. Cannot wait till next week.

Plot Details and Title Revealed for SHERLOCK Season 3 Episode 1

Anticipation is high for the upcoming third season of the excellent BBC series Sherlock, and production on the three-episode season recently got underway in the UK. Though the episodes won’t begin to air until this coming winter, executive producer Mark Gatiss has taken to Twitter to reveal the title of the first episode and, subsequently, plot details have also surfaced by way of the Arthur Conan Doyle source material for the story. Since I know not everyone is completely caught up with season two of Sherlock (you should really get on that), I’ll leave the spoilerish material until after the jump.

If you haven’t yet seen season two of Sherlock, be warned that you will be very much spoiled if you keep reading.

Again, massive spoilers for Sherlock season two lurk below. Continue at your own risk.

Gatiss unveiled the following image on his Twitter early Monday morning along with the caption:

Quote:
“Exclusive! Ep 1 will be called ‘The Empty Hearse’. The game is on! #Sherlock”

Metro adds that the first episode of season three will indeed be based on the original Doyle story The Adventure Of The Empty House, which explains the return of Sherlock following his apparent demise. If you’ll remember, the finale of season two found Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock faking his death following a confrontation with Moriarty, with Martin Freeman’s Watson mourning the loss of his dear friend. Doyle’s Empty House chronicles Holmes’ miraculous survival, and Gatiss previously spoke fondly about the story and its explanation for Holmes’ fate:

Quote:
“There’s certain things about The Adventure of the Empty House which feel set in stone because that’s how Sherlock comes back, but at the same time we feel free to invent and to introduce new stuff to it.”
Doyle’s Empty House is also noteworthy for introducing the villain Sebastian Moran, but obviously specific plot details for the episode are being kept firmly under wraps so we don’t know if Moran will be a part of Sherlock or not. Jeremy Lovering is directing this first installment of the third season, taking over for Sherlock seasons one and two director Paul McGuigan who is busy prepping a feature film adaptation of Frankenstein at Fox.

I've been watching this show as the first two seasons are available on Amazon Prime. Wow, this is a great show.

I just finished A Scandal in Belgravia, and that must have been the best episode yet. I must savor the next two episodes.

Maybe I should have waited closer to the debut of season 3 before starting though, as I hear the third episode of season 2 ends on a major cliffhanger.

This'll definitely be a series worth owning on BD, though I think I'll wait to see if the price ever goes down to around $15 or so per season.

It's currently $15 at BB after using the U&S coupon.

Thanks for the heads up. Actually, since I knew they've been at $20 on Amazon for the past week or so, I just looked it up on the BBY website after making my post and saw them. I'm still debating though, as I'm limited on DVDs right now, and there are some other things I want to get. Decisions, decisions..

The final episode of season 2 is being repeated tonight and there's some sort of special clip at the end that's been announced, little over an hour and a half before the clip is on.
