SMB 2 really kicked your a**. Tougher levels, far more death drops, wind and finding warp tubes that actually send you back a few worlds.

Doki Doki Panic was what the US SMB 2 was a copy of. Essentially the same except the key guardian doesn't move until you're out of the key room, the characters are obviously different but have the same unique powers and the waterfalls move at seizure inducing speeds. The slot machine bonus screen is also plainer.

Megarace 2.

"Welcome to Megarace, the action show where violence happens only once every few seconds! And remember folks, if you are watching the Repeat, then don't phone in with the answers! I hate it when they ruin the suspense!" Megarace Vidhost Lance Boyle.

I suck at Galaga, I can very rarely pass level 25..

Any how, I am playing the original Raiden Fighters (1996)

came close to beating this a few times but I die silly deaths on the last stage.

Surprisingly it does feature with other light gamers taking interest here, it is located at the local Cinema, though all high scores are mine ;D. The scores range between 18 and 28 million. Which by world standards is decidedly average. tops is near 60 million.

an example of gameplay

Does it count as retro? Sanitarium for the PC. I've been attempting to get into it, but my pc has a massive problem with the graphics and voices. Very frustrating. But it seems like a great game.

Sonic CD finally popped up on Steam (PC) so I've been playing that. Is it worth all the hype of the best Sonic game that the select group of Sega CD owners claim? Well it is solid and worth getting but the first three genesis Sonics still have it beat.

Nevertheless, proper widescreen support, 60fps, save states and use of both American and Japanese soundtracks does make for a superior experience then using original hardware. How often can you say that?

I have the original sonic CD in the collection. I remember the bosses being defeated in about 3 strikes and not particularly challenging. I too prefer the MD/Genesis originals, love the CD's music.

I would love to play 32x's "Kolibri". that looked like a fine game.

Just a few minutes ago, I started playing "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels", for the first time in years. Its still very challenging, but I find that losing multiple lives doesn't bother me as much.

I just finished playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in one sitting, a few minutes ago, without saving or losing any lives...it took me six freaking hours. My brain feels like cottage cheese.

Dude that's insane.

I was playing through Star Ocean: Second Story (RPG for the PS1) some last week and the week before, but I've been pretty busy with some stuff this week, so I've let it sit for awhile. Not the greatest RPG ever, but one of my favorites nevertheless. All of its weird little quirks is what makes it so special. It has a pretty neat active-battle system and an extensive item creation/skill system, too (and 12 playable characters, only 8 of which you can recruit on a given save file, is always a plus).

Any of you guys able to beat the NES Contra without using the Konami Cheat after all these years? I haven't played this in ages, but I'm gonna see if I still remember where all of the baddies pop up:

Probably, but I wanted to see if I could actually do it. I kept getting mad that saved games were counted as losses, and the same with being revived by bottled fairies. I found all but two of the Heart Pieces, and the toughest boss is still that blasted butterfly at the end of the Skull Woods dungeon.

Oh man, you just jogged my memory! One time when I was a freshman in college, a friend and I completed Super Mario Bros 3 in one sitting tag-team style (he was Luigi, I was Mario). We completed every level in order by number, even optional ones, and didn't use any Warp Whistles of course. As I recall, it took us like 7 hours; we finished it in the wee hours of the morning.

Default Thunderforce 2

I have been playing ThunderForce 2 for the Sega Genesis. This is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE VIDEOGAME! When I got rid of all my Genesis games (big mistake!) this is the one game I kept. I used to be an "expert" on this game where I could finish it with 3-4 spaceships. Now, I am having a hard time even making it to the last level. Still fun though. I plan on ordering more Genesis games on Amazon. I recently purchased Maximum Carnage for $3 new but I have not played it yet. Does anyone know how to get the original Tron lightcycle arcade game (top-view)?

Excellent, never played that one but Thunder Force 4 is tops for mine. I think top 5 genesis (we call em megadrives down here) experiences for me. Along with Shining Force 2, Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star IV and probably Bio Hazard Battle (amazing visuals and sound).

I've never beaten or really seriously played the "Lost Levels" version, but I did recently play and beat the original SMB2 via emulator. I definitely prefer the original sprites and look and feel of all those old NES Mario games over the updated SNES ones you get to play on All-Stars. I still really like All-Stars, though. If you get a chance, try the emulator version of SMB2, unless you have a Famicom and an original cartridge or modified NES of course.

Thunderforce 2 has a mix of side-scrolling and top-view levels which made it very unique. So much fun to play. I had Thunderforce 4 but I got rid of it . I also played Phantasy Star IV and Gunstar Heroes, awesome RPG and side-scrolling action games. Bio Hazard Battle is a favorite of mine as well! I will try and buy that on Amazon soon. Great times with my Genesis!
