Well I meant a week from release date not since it was available....but in the spirit of Christmas I will agree to disagree with you and hope you have a Happy Holidays

as much as i would've like some features on this disc, i'm actually hoping another edition doesn't come out. doesn't that sort of negate the purpose of buying a cool limited edition item?

Look at this joker:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fright-Night...#ht_500wt_1413

Not only is he listing his for $200 - he is saying anyone asking for less is selling bootlegs.

What. a. Jackass.

lol, that's unfortunately the way the game is played. sell something as limited and then create a mass market product later.

If you look at his history, he sold two copies already for $50-60. I guess by his logic, those two were bootlegs since they went for less than $200.

Question

Shouldn't this thread be in the Collectibles and Limited Editions section now?

FYI, I am not speaking from a sour grapes perspective... Just a rational perspective with years of experience in buying and tracking and selling collectibles.

Today's hot item will be cold next year. Something else will be hot by then.

Even if no one else makes a run of this movie... Most will have moved on, and someone will have several that he can't give away.

I have seen many a hot and limited item go cold very fast and even though still rare, nobody cares... And the price comes back to earth.

Demand is as strong as supply in economics to determine price... So even fixed supply quantity doesn't guarantee demand will not go down over time.

An item is only worth what someone will pay for it... And lots of things factor in to how many buyers want it and how many sellers will sell.

I go to my local used book/movie store and regularly see new release movies... Which means someone bought at retail, then sold at 25% of retail to the used store who sells it at half price... I'm actually counting the days until I see a copy of this movie show up there.

While the price will no doubt go down over the coming months, don't expect it to fall anywhere below $60. I don't know if people are simply in denial as to why they didn't buy one, but if they think they'll get one for super cheap in 6 months or so than they're seriously misinformed.
Well, I can't speak for most of those... But several sellers on Amazon are selling Zodiac for $20 or slightly higher... And a bunch of people are still picking them up super cheap from Blockbuster previously viewed sales.

I remember a bunch of people picking up "rare" other titles from Blockbuster too, but can't remember all the titles.

I didn't even know Blu-ray.com had such a section Ray. But yeah, it's getting close to that point, isn't it?

C'mon Christmas!!! I'm looking forward to giving this as a gift to my wife. I told her that I tried for hours to order a copy when it went up for preorder, but the website was having problems with traffic. She's gonna love it! We've watched it every year around Halloween for 19 years, so we'll both easily see/hear any improvements. An extra Christmas viewing this year. I might list it on Ebay for $1,000,000 for fun just to illustrate how much this film means to both of us and what it would take to possibly, just possibly entice her to sell it used. (Not happening!)

Normally, I would agree with all of this HDMe. And I still think it's true more often than not. Just not with this particular title. I'm convinced now that the hardcore fanbase for Fright Night truly does outstrip the supply...by several thousand. No doubt there will be some who just watch it once to see what all the fuss was about, and then turn it around for a quick recoup. Others will balk at the escalating price and just content themselves with the inevitable cheap(er) boots, streams, or downloads.

But I think you'll be surprised by how many fans and collectors actually hang onto this baby. For many, it's a perennial fave - a movie they tend to rewatch more often than others, and on a semi-regular basis. Just going by an example I'm familiar with, when I told my friends I was placing a pre-order for this Blu, I thought maybe - may-bee - one other would be willing to spring for it at the $30.00 price point so we could lower our combined shipping costs cross-border. However, I was surprised when all of them jumped, as well as just how excited they were about getting one. Prior to this Blu-ray release, I had no idea how passionate a cult following this movie actually had. The response has been uncanny.

So I think Fright Night will have unusually strong 'legs' in the aftermarket HDMe. I mean, does it really matter what next year's hot Blu-ray is if this is one of your all-time faves and an absolute must have?

+1. Well said, and a realistic, level headed view of this (oddly) very emotional release.

From hometheaterforum.com's interview with one of the two guys at Twilight Time:

Quote:
HTF: That's important because I have seen some of our members say, “a title like this, it’s going to be popular. It will sell out. The studio will see worth in it, and I’ll buy it six months from now on Amazon at the studio discounted price.” So it’s important to note that that's not going to happen. If there is a film in your release schedule they are interested in, buy it now, buy it never or best case three years from now.

In all honesty we cannot say that the studio will never reissue these titles in the future or that they won’t sublicense to another label down the line. What we can say is that won’t happen for a minimum of three years and likely longer, and even then it is very unlikely that the studio itself will do it. So only another sublicense is a possibility.
Pretty good read, and answers the question people have been waiting for. Seems like the deal was it won't release until at least three years later, and if not a top seller, will most likely be reissued by another seller rather than studio directly, if that.

That $29.95 price seems very attractive now, doesn't it?

Beat you by a minute

It was a good read. Quoted one of the more interesting questions, although seeing how they came to be about was cool, too.
